I am looking for a good stainless steel knife any advise on what you would recommend and why. (I am not looking to be told about why carbon steel is fine please I love them don't have any SS) I have been looking into Fallkniven S1 but worry I have heard that the edge chips. what are some good steels and knives pricde under 200 preferably. The uses this will be the only knife I will have in the everglades.... well I will also have a smaller blade as usual. And maybe a machete but as for now not sure. This is my first time going..

Bushcraft and defense in wcs and hikes and occasional fish as handles just something that will last other then that just a SS that will last preferably not chip and would be a bonus if it had good lateral strength.

The only one I could think of at the top of my head is the EKA Nordic W11 Fixed 4.33" Sandvik 12C27 Blade

I own both the Fallkniven F1 and S1 and never had a problem with the edge chipping. So if this was the only drawback, I would go with the S1. Try to get a hold on one first because if you have big paws the handle size might not suit you well. The plastic sheath is another bonus since it will not root or absorb moisture.

I live in a equatorial jungle country. I have a Kershaw Diskin Hunter and a Field Knife. The Diskin is a great knife and the question I had after I bought it was, "Why didn't anyone think of this before?"

NONE....Sorry......The absolute best for this work is a Busse, Busse kin or the ever faithful BARK RIVER ..........I would go with BR ....just keep some 3-1 handy and you'll be all good brother

Sorry second note.......If this is your serious work and you really want to invest in something very useful.....I would contact a good custom guy - BRIAN EFROS - and get you a good CPM4V or some other great tool steel made Bushcrafter

Yes that is what I am in between fighting over better steels I made a new thread for the topic vg10 laminated vs cpm 20cv leaning to the gso for the seemingly longer life I will get from it with better handle?

Has your plastic sheath stayed tight I saw a video of one that falls out ? And I have medium hands

It is tight enough. Even if you shake it upside down with the nylon strap unlocked, it stays put. If you make your best to sling it out of the sheath... I bet you could though! Anyhow, the sheath is meant to be used with the nylong strap clipped. If retention worries you, you can always heat and bend a bit the holding tab. Some people have done it succesfully. Or you could go all out and make (or buy) an aftermarket Kydex sheath. However I warn you that usually for the price of those custom sheaths you could easily buy another F1 (or S1 for that matter). They are somewhat expensive (for what they are).

Why not a Mora? They are extremely underrated imo. They are light, cheap and performs relatively well. For $200, you have own more than 10 of them and never have to worry if you lose them or even break them.

I still prefer either of the Kershaws to the Mora. I get Sandvik 14c28n rather than 12c and it is much more corrosion resistant and takes a wicked sharp edge. The edge is easy to maintain. The spine is as thick as an Esee Izula and the edge does not chip (so far).
