I have checked at Gander Mountain in York, PA; Dicks in Hanover PA/BelAir MD/York, PA; REI in Timonium MD for stainless steel Nalgene bottles. Hopefully will get up to Cabelas in Hamburg PA to check for them before the cold weather hits.

I am looking for a brick and mortar store which carries these about an hour to an hour and a half away from me (zip code 21161).

Thanks

Dan

I have purchased several from Dick's Sporting goods here in FL. Seems like a lot of running around to find them, why not just buy online?

I ordered two online from Two Wolves Outdoor a couple of years ago. Their customer service is outstanding. I don't know if they have a brick and mortar location and they are not local. The ss Nalgenes are really thick-walled and heavy. You would have a hard time denting these things with a hammer. I would like to see a titanium version. Also it is a little weird not being able to see what you are drinking. Just some thoughts. Good luck.

If you've ever seen a regular polycarbonate Nalgene bottle, they are exactly the same. Identicle, except made from stainless steel. Is there something in particular you are interested in seeing or knowing?

Something to consider... stainless bottles dent when dropped, Nalgene doesn't.

Turns out the plastic ones pose a health risk and are being phased out.

The health risk increases when they sit in the sun, which for me is all the time as I always hung them on the outer part of my pack.

Not true. They are much taller and the caps are night and day different. No flimsy little plastic straps and no disposable like construction on the caps themselves.

Have fun trying to dent one by dropping it. If anything they are much too dent proof heavy gauge and, in my mind, too heavy to carry.

BPA is not a consideration with the metal models and the health risks of the 'plastic' versions is arguable (even if they do "sit out in the sun"). Even the new plastic versions are free of the questionable chemical compound.

Dt, the caps are indeed different, but the dimensions on a 32ounce bottle are the same. They do make a larger bottle that is taller in polycarbonate and ss. I gave a SS bottle to a friend and currently have 4 of the 32oz bottles, all BPA free. I doubt Nalgene would stamp them as such if they truly weren't. From a common company yes, but Nalgene got it's start making laboratory gear if I am not misaken.

The Standard SS Guyot is 38oz. and is not tapered at the bottom. These are the ones that nest in a GSI cup.

The Backpacker SS Guyot is 32oz with a tapered bottom.

You'd be hard pressed to make any significant dent by dropping, throwing or abusing either one.

which one did you get, the Guyot? 32 or 38 oz? I have several of the 38oz, and love them. You can boil water in them, maybe eleminating another cooking vessel. Or at least, giving you an option if spending the night, water filter is disfunctional, or just to cook.
They are heavier than the plastic Nalgene, but worth it IMO.

SHS - I believe this is accurate info.

ETA: Yes, the standard is 38oz.
