I don't know if it would be technically considered to be a patina, but I did an acid wash on this fixed blade hunter. It is CPM 154CM, and was originally a mirror polished finish. I did the old ferric chloride soak and then took some emery cloth to it.
I quit waiting for a 440C version of my favourite GEC patterns long ago. It seemed like an endless (and useless) suffering. It's like being young and waiting for a pretty girl to call you. She doesn't call on the first day, nor second, nor third, nor in the first week...time to get both feet on the ground not saying that it's impossible that GEC will produce a stainless #92, but you should spare yourself the struggle of waiting...and look for something else instead.
The GEC #48 is a great option, and so is the Buck solitaire. And if D2 is "stainless enough" for you (it's not technically stainless, but doesn't rust easily) then Canal Street and Queen might have something for you as well.
Thanks for the thoughts Fausto...D2 has been something I have been considering as I think it would be stainless enough and I don't have anything in D2. Sucks having a pattern you love but long for a different steel!
