Stamp?

How would you know if a knife stamp is being used by someone else?
I am new to knife making, and my wife keeps telling me to start marking my knives, I have an idea what I want my stamp to look like, but I do not want to infringe on anyones stamp that is already in use.

Your name is probably the best. Google your name and see if there are other makers with a name similar to yours. If you come up with a design, post it on here, and other makers may be able to tell you if there is something similar to it being used already.

^^^^ Agreed. Use your name if possible. You want people to associate your product with your name anyway. If you want to see if another maker is using something similar you can start looking here:

Since my moniker on this thread and just about every internet forum I belong to is; jtwodogs or some derivation of that, like j2dogs, including my email address, all these have been that way for years. I was thinking of something utilizing (J) and (2) with maybe a pic of a bull dog in the middle.
