I did find some data when searching. Mostly recommending to stamp prior to HT while soft. However, does this not induce a stress riser? I am aware there's other, better methods for marking but I don't sell knives. These are for me and the family only. Thanks for your insight.

You can do it cold before heat treat or some makers heat the area to a dull red and mark it. You can’t do it after heat treat.

It has to be before heat treat. It's too hard to do it afterwards.

What I do is stamp it at red, which may bend the blade slightly. I then fix it, make sure it's straight and normalize the blade.
