Stamping, how much pressure?

I have some questions about stamping your blades with a metal stamp, for you makers mark.

How much pressure does it take to stamp a blade?

The reason I am asking is because I hear folks talking about stamping with a hammer doesn't necessarily work well, (double images and bad prints).
That got me to thinking about building a press for this purpose.

What would you consider the best kind of press for this purpose, a hydraulic or manual screw press?

Some other questions that have popped up in my mind concerning this process are.

Do you stamp the blade hot or cold?

If you do it hot at what point in the process do you stamp it?

If you do it cold at what point in the process do you stamp it

Those of you that stamp your blades I would appreciate any feedback you may have on this subject!

I use one of the 12 ton presses from Harbor Freight. After I figured the cost of steel and the jack and my time it was just cheaper to buy it.I works well for my stamp from Evers.
It takes different amounts of pressure for different steels so practice on some scrap to find out how much to press.

On Stainless I do it before H/T and on carbon steel I do it cold annealed before H/T.
So cold on both counts, usually the last thing I do before H/Ting.
