my dad is a sheetmetal worker, and he came up with the idea that we could make our own die, for stamping knife blanks. it would have the benefits of forging, becuase you heating then up and using a 36-ton hydralic press to stamp them, instead of using and air hammer.

I work full time in a very well equipped machine shop. I make dies often using CNC machinery. I have gone through the numbers
as far as making a punch and die....as a result, I have one of my popular hunters lazer cut. You would have to make a ton of blades to cover the cost of your tooling!
If you have the time to make the tooling and have the press to do it with then it would be a neat process. I havn't done any hot stamping since I was an apprentice, this brings back memories!!!!!

i have the press, just need to ground out the design in 1/2" bars of d-2. also i was thinking of making a stamp that would work like the ones in an air hammer.
