A few years ago, together with Duncan and his lovely wife Sue, I got to meet Sheffield cutlery legend, Stan Shaw. Since then, I’ve become friends with Stan, and even acquired a couple of his knives. Stan was 90 just before Xmas, but is still working.

There have been several threads about Stan here over the years, and if you’ve posted in one of those threads, I may have something for you.

I have a mint condition copy of Geoff Tweedale’s biography of Stan, which I’d like to offer up as a giveaway prize, the book is signed by Stan. Also, a boxed DVD with the same title as Geoff's book - Stan Saw: Master Cutler. Here’s how it works, if you have previously posted in one of the threads about Stan Shaw here on Bladeforums, you get one entry for each thread you’ve posted in. Please provide a link to your post. If you have posted in the Old Knives thread, prior to today, you also get an entry. The same with the ‘Made in Sheffield, 1830-1930, A Golden Age?’ thread. I’ll draw the winner randomly, and they get both prizes.

If you don’t qualify for entry, here’s a consolation prize:

Good luck to everyone who enters.

Jack, that's an excellent give away! Not sure if I've posted in any of those threads, and not really worried about it. Putting the book on my Amazon list. Thanks for the heads up!

Wow.... jack- This is a Way cool give-away, I have posted in all those threads, but not entering - you have gifted me way too much as it is - but the visit was as though it was yesterday my friend.
thank you so much for everything Jack, you surely are an amazing fellow, and I am so so glad you have struck such a great friendship up with Stan, PLEASE next time you see Stan - pass on both Sue and my regards and let him know the experience was amazing - and still thrills me today!

Thanks for the kind words Duncan, you know I feel the same my friend. I think you have the book and DVD anyway, but otherwise, please throw your hat in. I'll be seeing Stan again soon :)

For those not aware, you can quickly find your posts in the relevant thread (which you can find using the 'Search Forum' function), by clicking on the number of replies in the centre column - a box comes up listing all posters who have posted in that thread - you can then click on your own posts to bring them up

Good work Mike, they're different books in any case - and the giveaway prize is personally signed by Stan

Not eligible for this giveaway but thanks for the pdf. Even if I've seen knife construction over and over its still nice to see the differences from maker to maker.
