With great sorrow Stan has been euthanatized at 3.00pm this afternoon.

In 24hours he went from being reasonably well within himself, to being unable to hold food down or able to drink water.

The vet read the test report to me today and in layman terms he had a very aggressive form of bone cancer. The tumors were de-bulked last Monday from inside his mouth to help with his breathing and were by last night every bit as large as when we started out four days ago.

He has been buried under a lone gum tree down in the bottom paddock overlooking a dam where he and I spent many hours together, it was also his favorite swimming hole.

I would like to thank everyone again for their wishes and prayers, but it was not to be. I spent the entire night with him trying to settle him down; he was in great pain and still didn’t stay comfortable for long after pain injections.

He is the second Bullmastiff that we’ve lost, but there will never be another, they have a way about them that seems to get into your heart.

My wife is just as devastated as I am, she was always yelling at him for chasing her cat, but she always said that he only had to look at her with those eyes and he could melt her heart.

Thanks again everyone.
Ian.

I am so sorry to hear this, Ian. People who have never allowed a pet into their hearts can never understand the emptiness we feel when we lose one of our beloved animal friends. I wish there was something that could be said to allay the pain and loss you and your wife are suffering.

Know this: We are feeling your pain with you, and when you have joy again, we will share that as well. One love, brother. I hope that gum tree flourishes for Stan.

Sorry to hear of your loss, as a fellow Bull Mastiff owner I know just how human their expressions can be at times.

Thoughts are with you and your wife at this tough time.

Goodbye Stan. That is truly sad news Ian. Your pup is being missed from halfway around the world.

That's heartbreaking. I keep, or they allow me to keep them, 3 canine family members. Each one holds a special place in my heart.

Stan will always be remembered here.

God bless

Ian,
I'm terribly sorry to hear this. I wish you and your family peace on the loss of a loved friend.

I'm very sorry for your Loss. I know how it feels and it isn't easy.

At very least his suffering is now over.

RIP Stan.

Those of us fortunate enough to be owned by great canines feel your loss, Ian. Smoke up from Northern AZ for Stan! I am glad he isn't having any more pain.

Ian,

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I think that every so often, God loans us a perfect soul to keep us company. We should be grateful for that, and we are. But when he calls them home it always hurts.

Thank you for sharing Stan with us, and know that he will live on in our hearts.
