Stand offs vs backspacer

Hey Dooku77, welcome to Emerson and this little corner of Bladeforums; I have a CQC 13 made in 2014--it came with stand-offs and I think it looks great. My Super 7 and Ubr Commander have backspacers, and while I do not mind them, I think I prefer the flow-through design of the stand-offs... but not so much that I'd change the two with the back spacers. So, I'm fine with the way they come, even if I have a slight preference for one over the other.

Thanks Aias, its funny because the CQC 7 never appealed to me AMD then one day I had to have one.

Ha! That is my story too, more or less; first I stayed away from Emersons, and now they are the only moderns I care to carry. Otherwise, traditional or fixed blade.

Other than my para 2 I carry my esee 3. Now I'm obsessed with the CQC 7. A friend of mine snapped his commander out of his pocket a while back and I was amazed when the blade opened.

Dooku- I do wear loose fitting shorts and pants an when that material folds in, the blade point has poked holes in my pockets. I know I can't be the only one who has experienced this but maybe I am. The Commander's rear-spacer fills the whole pommel so this is not a problem.

True!! the standoffs gives cleaner look but lesser protection to the edge, imo.

I often wear loose shorts when running or working out. I know exactly what you mean.

Dooku, Welcome to the Emerson forum. Most of the Emersons I own, have the back spacer. I only have one that has the stand offs. Some people like the feel of the back spacer and other like the look and uniformity of the stand offs. I guess it's all up to personal preference. I like the look of a polished Titanium back spacer or if you look at rayster357 work, he makes some nice full back spacers.

Don't mind Pennypincher, I think he was trying to be funny but it just came off wrong.
You can enter his next Emerson photo contest titled, "Emerson, Backspacer or Stand offs?"
The Grand Prize will be a Dead Horse that was beaten to death by the entrants to his contest! :-P

LOL thanks S.T.R. Horse meat carved with my 7. rayster357 you say? How would I find this fellow?

He's always on the Emerson forum look at the sticky "Emerson EDC, What's Yours" at the top of the page. He's a member here not a knife craftsman (pimper) yet. But I have a feeling that could change here in bit. So far he's only pimped his own knives and they look great. I think he might be ready to make the leap to the next level!

Gooey I've seen some knives with 4 stand offs. Looks ridiculous. Officers that's a great point, especially if I'm taking it apart to clean it. Thanks for the input everyone.

You think four looks ridiculous? I got this one with six!

Stand offs make it easier to rinse fish guts out of the handle, but don't carry a stood off knife in the same pocket with change.

I just got my first mini cqc 7 and after reading all the negative and crap people post about the F/F and whatever I still bought one. I love it! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that manufactured replacement backspacers made of CF or Ti. I love that I can take this thing apart and mess with it, just not a huge fan of standoffs.....my cqc is a 2012 so it did come with a back spacer. I did find a new thumb disk made of Ti and would love if I could customize it a little further. Any info on scales would help too! Thanks!

S.T.R., awesome of you to make the recommendation! Dooku77 and LouLasher, hate to say this but I don't offer any form of metal work. I am only working with G10 and Canvas Micarta laminates at this time. Will be working with Moonglow and some carbon or glass fiber laminates in the future. Everything that I make is by hand minus the drilling work for the pivot and screw holes.
