Stand Up to Cancer

Both cancer and muscular dystrophy have both touched my family in tragic ways.

Ugly stuff that interrupts life. You rant, buddy. We're all in this together.

You guys/gals are the greatest!!!

Words cannot express how much each and everyone of you mean to me:)

Many Hugs and kisses,

Cancer has affected just about everybody I know. Too many people have died from this miserable disease.

I lost my 10 year old godson to cancer. Watching a child go through the ravages of a disease like that is very hard to do and watching what it did to his family was equally hard. I spent many nights in the section of the hospital for terminally ill children and their parents and it changed me- forever.

I have given a considerable amount of my resources (money and time) to help those affcted.

In the last 10 years, I have lost two Aunts, Father in Law(and war hero), Mother in Law, and Grandmother to cancer. I have also lost one close friend to cancer, who served his country all his life and left behind two young daughters and have another close friend fighting cancer as we speak and he has two young ones. It is much more serious now than ever before IMO. Cancer is everyones problem

i have 2 friends fighting the nasty stuff right now. my friend renea has breast cancer and my other friend frosty has colon cancer. my friend renea is getting ready for radiation therapy now and frosty is getting ready for chemo therapy soon. he just found out about a month ago that he has cancer when being operated on for a blocked bowel. i have another friend that is in remission for the second time and i hope she stays in remission. its some nasty stuff for sure and i hope they find a permanent cure for it soon.

Been there, done that, scariest thing ever! :thumbdn:

Even though there is not the "magic bullet", thank the scientists and the doctors that work on new drugs and develop new treatments to fight this piece of $hit disease.

I hate cancer too.
My job is to cut it out with a steel knife. Wish I had an INFI scalpel sometimes!
Sorry for your loss Amy, hang in there as best you can.
Good news is there has been some significant breakthroughs in cancer research genetics recently at Johns Hopkins, though it will be a while before we see the impact clinically.

My wife was diagnosed one year ago with breast cancer, she is doing fine now but we are dealing with a pain syndrome she has developed from the mastectomy and othe surgeries. Two other friends were recently diagnosed with breast cancer. One is just finishing chemo and is preparing for a double mastectomy. The other is starting chemo after a mastectomy. A third friend is recovering after prostate surgery.

Lets all do what we can to help find a cure.

Hi Amy,

Kudos to you for bringing this up:thumbup:. You are correct - It does effect everyone and it does suck.

I work for Amgen. We are one of the companies that partnered with the show last night "Stand Up to Cancer". Most anyone with cancer knows who Amgen is.

In a previous career I used to fight about money and never really felt like it was positively contributing to society. At Amgen, even though I am not a scientist, my work is directly tied to clinical trials and I know what I do helps people.

I do believe one day there will be a cure.

I lost my grandparents and some friends to cancer a few years ago. I also hope that we can find a cure. Hey Amy, please feel free to rant about stuff like this.
I appreciate everyone's contributions to this thread.

Congratulations on going where you feel you're contributing. Amgen is a decent company and they're doing important work.

One day, yes, there will be cures. Cancer doesn't rise from a single cause -- it's far more complicated than that. We need to keep at it, no matter how long it takes. Every day we learn a little bit more.

I lost my wife Beth to cancer on 7/7/08. Yes, cancer sucks!

I'm very sorry to hear about the recent loss of your wife:( I hope you are doing as well as you can in what has to be an almost impossible time.

Amy, I seen this last night but had no words. I'm very sorry for your loss also.
I lost my Father to it, my mother has beat it, my brother in law is fighting it now, and I lost one of my best friends to it years ago.
Like wired 45 I've had many stiches(but far lees than he) from skin cancer...an unkle died from skin cancer, but I am OK because I get checked twice a year.

I also want to remind everyone about Jules here on BF, he has several treatments left to go and hope all will say a prayer for Jules...and others here affected by it.

Amy, sounds like you've had a rough year. I hope you got that big hug last night.

After Jules read this post to me I asked if I could respond to all of you.
I am a survivor and now this wonderful man of mine is fighting for his life.I am doing everything possible so that the time comes and he can be called a survivor too.

What we couldn't understand while watching the show SU2C last night was why it was only *1* hour??? Seemed too short for such a serious issue, IMHO.

I have contributed to the Susan G. Komen organization for years, including St Judes in hopes that a cure will be found before my grandchildren are born.

Cancer is an ugly disease. My prayers to everyone who has been touched by cancer.
