This looks like it might be the perfect 2 7/8" bladed partner for my calypso jr. Anyone every use one? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Its a great knife! I can get you about all the SS ones you want I think for $40ea. I'll have to check on that though tomorrow, I'll let ya know...

SMKW has a good deal going right now on the G10 handle ones for 42.99, Ive got one coming right now with the help of a X-Mas gift certificate...

V-1, buy it, you'll like it. IMO, it's got to be one of the best knives Spyderco has ever made. I got one, and it immediately replaced my BF Native. It's that good. And it's not just the new thing. I have been carrying it for several months now, with no reason or desire to carry my BF Native again. It holds a great edge (ATS-55 steel, btw, if you weren't aware), holds it a long time. Sharpens up easier and seems sharper than my BM's in ATS-34. Good G-10. Steel spacer. Single liner, non-nested. I almost bought a second one, just because they were on sale at SMKW.

BUT IT! Oops!

I just received the Standard in G-10 from SMKW. This is a great knife, the ATS-55 is a very good steel and the grip of the G-10 is much better than the Stainless steel scales. If you get one you will not be dissapointed. This is one great knife.

I'm convinced. I need something to take some of the heavier work off my micarta calypso jr. I love this knife (calypso) and I don't want to damage it. These two should make a nice little combo around the office and in jurisdictions with 3" blade limits. By the way have these been discountinued? My wife went out and picked up another Wegner Jr. and if these are DC'ed too I might pick up two also.

Well 2 G-10 Standards (one for the wife and I) and a G-10 Harpy are on the way. Thanks for everyone's help. If they are discontinued atleast I have 2.

Hey guys, anybody have the current web address for SMKW? I used to buy a lot from them back in B.I. times (before internet). I had their site bookmarked but rarely went there because it was such a PITA. When I tried alittle while ago, I got an error message that the site was no longer there.
TIA

P4,

Best to call them, the Std isn't listed on their website.

Maddog2020 beat me with the toll-free number.
I saw this post Monday morning. The price was too good to pass, so I attempted to order.
The link available on this forum resulted in the same error message that you saw.
I got through to the websight by a generic approach, but ended up calling SMKW anyway as the C05 is not listed anywhere.
I ordered it late Monday and received it today at lunch.
You guys provided a great tip on an excellent knife at an exceptional price.
This is a heavy duty, thick-bladed knife.
The black coated clip sits very high on the scale exposing less than 3/8" of the handle when clipped to the pocket.
I like the clip placement and the feel it gives to the hand. It's staying on, which is contrary to my usual practice.
I'd say it is every bit as stout as the Tim Wegner JR. It is a very attractive, traditional-looking knife.
Like others have said, this one will be carried and used.
Bill

My new G-10 Standard has been in my hand since it was delivered yesterday.
I don't see any reason why anyone would not love it.
The G-10 has more than proven itself for strength. The clip is black so it is hard to notice when worn. The clip is also high on the scale-much more than other Spydercos. It sits deep in the pocket, tip down, and is practically invisable. The blade and inner liner are thick. Add the ample G-10 scales (thicker than those on the Wegner Jr) and you have a substantial knife.
There is a phillips head adjustment screw where the lock back mechanism pivots-something I've never seen before on a Spyderco.
I would suggest this knife to anyone.
In fact, I ordered another one as a spare as I definately want to carry and use this model for a lifetime. In ten years, I'll still have one.
It's too bad Spyderco dropped this one.
It's too good that one may be had for less than $50, freight included.
Better act fast before all of them are gone.
Bill

Well the Standard's came in. I ended up getting 2 serr. and 1 plain edge from my regular dealer. So far it has exceeded my expectations. My wife's verdict of her plain edge is still out.

I just got mine Sat from SMKW, Great little knife! BTW...Anyone notice the Standard has the same handle as the Harpy.

Phantom4, the web site for SMKW is...smokymountainknife.com

My verdict: Awesome knife. The construction is very impressive. Of course the blade is Spyderco sharp. The one I gave as a gift to a friend for his birthday last night has finally shown him the light. He was never much of a Spyderco fan, big BM man. Well, he's converted. He's looking at a G-10 Harpy and a full size Wegner now.

I always thought about this one, I now have it, thanks to you guys...

A sleeper...but, I got one now. Don't miss out.

Nice size, not too small, like a dragonfly can be...a definate place for it...

Thanks for the heads up!

Ok, and lots of hard work...

Well the great design and construction of the Standard has resulted in my friend buying a new Wegner and trading a used BM mini-Spike for a used Harpy. Spyderco marches on...

If you keep putting off buying one of these DONT! Ive been using this everyday since I got it. Ive always used knives in the 4in range, and I wasnt too sure about this one. Try it for awhile and your love it! For most all everyday cutting chores (or pleasure's

) a 4in knife now seems to be too much.

I had a friend just order one this past week from SMKW and I told him while he was it ask if they still had any of the G10 Harpys left for 42.99....They are both in the mail! They still have plenty of Standard's but not sure of the Harpy's.
