Standard (Medium) Chopper or Lightweight: Which and Why?

LC is my most-used CPK so I’m in for one of those. And because I’m a completist I’ll probably get an MC as well.
This is the way

I'm unsure what I want as there's not much details released yet, so I'll probably get both. I'm sure I'll love them both so why not?

Besides, I do not own a single CPK chopper so need to get in on this and in order to get the full experience, I need both. (and hope we eventually see some of the big boys again like the Behemother! NEED that!)

I owned a LC at one time and currently own a medium chopper and heavy duty medium chopper. The LC is light and nimble, the MC is light and nimble, and the HDMC is a beast, but not light and nimble. Of the 3, the MC would have to be my favorite. It’s a perfect camp knife that you can chop and baton with. At the same time, if feels more like a large knife in hand instead of a chopper. It’s a perfectly balanced knife IMO.

My MC is my number one most favorite knife. It should be noted I usually have something smaller to compliment it, but it is also my most used knife as it and a saw are my favorite campfire combo. I really like hatchets but the MC is a kindling making machine. I don’t have an LC and I find the MC to be plenty light enough. I think I’m going to sit this one out and wait for the next BC run.*

*I reserve the right to change my mind.

Aside from the obvious weight and blade stock thickness differences, can any of the more experienced members comment on the blade shape? Specifically the belly area up to the tip seem different between the previous 2 iterations of the Light and Medium Choppers. From the website photos they appear different.

Does one favor a different kind of work compared to the other?

… eagerly awaiting this pre-order and have alarms set, a 10” knife from Carothers is something the collection needs desperately :)

I expect that these two new choppers design will not be in "collab" with L.A. but a "pure" CPK design like the HDMC and the Behemother.

The OG LC had a 9-7/8" blade and slightly different handle/scales than the OG 10" MC.

These two new choppers will both be 10" and will most likely have the same appearance/design but just different stock thickness.

They should also have the same scale design (interchangeable) as that of the OG MC and BC.

The new Light Chopper will now have the same blade shape as the previous (and upcoming) Medium Chopper. Far as we know they'll in effect be twins but for blade thickness.
Does one favor a different kind of work compared to the other?...
This is a question I'd love to see answered, too.

I like the shape of the medium chopper better than the light chopper, but it’s mainly for aesthetic reasons.

How about a medium chopper snow pic since we got snow today!

I’ve never been into choppers. But I was once chopper-curious and opted for the LC. (Am wanting terotuff scales for mine if the new design aligns).

My justification was that it can pass as a large knife (have carved a Thanksgiving turkey with it), and also does well as a short machete type blade.

The MC does sound pretty sweet too.

Oh wow, I thought this would be a single Medium-Light chopper
The new Light Chopper was originally called "Medium Light" because it would now have same profile as the Medium, but with a thinner blade; the combining made for calling it "Medium Light".

When Nathan realized they had enough material to offer the Medium again, they decided to -- and the former "Light Chopper", which had become the "Medium Light Chopper" became again the "Light Chopper", and the formerly "Medium Chopper" is still a "Medium Chopper" but now the "Standard Chopper".

It's all very simple really. 😋

I have a light chopper. The reason I wanted it was because it could also do the work of a small machete...and...Nathan talked about how well it can perform in a cutting contest. Pretty much had me at hello. I like stuff that can be used in various scenarios. Maybe because I try to be that guy.
