"standard pocket knife"

Zatoichi37:

Good to hear - I assume 5.5 blade, not 5.5 overall. Thanks for the info. I asked campus security about knives, and he said that he wanted people to be allowed to carry knives to open boxes and the like, so long as the knife did not look like a weapon. I showed him my SOG Pentagon Elite 1, and he said that it did look like a weapon. He said something under 3 inches would be more advisable. When students are present I will carry my Spyderco Native or Spyderco cricket. Both are VG-10 and very sharp.

Yes, 5.5 blade length. I don't think I could deal with 5.5 overall. I've got a spyderco endura 4 g10 (vg10 steel) and a spyderco pacific salt (h1 steel) (yellow handle) which I think should be fine. I'll probably carry the pacific salt more as I'll be working in humid environments and swimming alot.

No offense, but I don't really like the look of that sog pentagon elite, but I do like the native. I'd argue the officer's statement about knives looking like weapons. I mean yes some are more shiny and look more dangerous than others (like a big saw on the back of the blade or some fantasy dagger shit), but it's really the way the knife is used. Just don't flick it open really fast when the cubicle slaves are looking, don't wave it at people, practice knife safety, and try to keep it concealed. I've tended to keep my knives clipped to my waistband instead of my pocket because it allows me to use my pockets more, have the knife concealed by my shirt, have the knife on the outside or inside of the waist band while clipped, and have it easily accessible.

No offense taken. I also prefer the Spyderco native to the Sog Pentagon elits. And the Native is much sharper than the Elite.
