Standardized pull weight scale?

"If it doesn't break your nail who cares?"

It's quite apparent that a lot of people around here do. Check out the Calf Roper thread, and how many posts center on the lighter pulls. Or how many forumites have complained about GEC's "too hard" pulls over the years. Pull weight isn't cosmetics, it actually affects how, and even if, you use a pocket knife. It's a VERY valid topic.

I have to agree. I have knives I seldom carry because the pull is a 1. I have others I won't carry because the pull is uncomfortably difficult for me.

A 5-pull is like a nice amber ale. It may not be everyone's favorite, but nobody hates it.

Why not use standard like used with trigger pull? Clamp and a metal catch "nail" then a scale to measure pull could do it. I know would take the fun out of talking / arguing about relative impressions.

I've never owned, handled, nor even seen in the flesh a GEC knife. I have no idea what their average pull feels like.
I am quite sure there are many more who like myself are not in the nitch GEC markets to.
A 91mm SAK on the otherhand, I (and most other people) own or have used. We know what the pull feels like, thus it is a good benchmark.
As for the earlier comment "... As long as it doesn't break your nail, what difference does it make?"
When your hands are cold and wet, one of the last things you need is to have to fight with your knife to open it.
I rarely carry a fixed blade. Too many "people" to include law enforcement consider them a "weapon", regardless of blade length.
My EDC comprises of three knives; a Buck 110 or Old Timer 6OT/7OT, in a belt pouch.
In my pocket I have either a SAK Huntsman or Recruit. (both a 91mm) and a Buck or Rough Rider stockman, for the most part.
I'll swap out the stockman for a canoe or Barlow on some days.
I will not carry a knife with a heavy pull.
I like the 4 to 5 pull on the 3 blades of a Buck 301. A "6 pull" is about as heavy as I'll carry. Like I said, I do not see any point in fighting the knife to open it, be my hands warm and dry or cold and wet.
