Did I miss something? I have been out of the knife loop for a few months, but is Emerson going to standoffs instead of backspacers on all knives, or just some? I have seen them mentioned on some new production knives on this and another forum..

I've seen it on some commanders and cqc-15s, but as far as I know it isn't all knives (yet?)

I received my Mini Commander with Standoffs in the mail! I really like it. It's going back Emerson to be drilled for left hand carry.

I just got a 2013 Horseman off the exchange a few weeks ago and I also just purchased a 2013 CQC-15 and they both have the standoffs.

Well that is a cool change. I kind of prefer the rigidity of a backspacer but stand-offs will not stop me from buying an Emerson.

Did the construction change any? Like threaded stand-offs with screws on both sides or perhaps a switch to Chicago screws.

Considering the only Emerson I had before these was a used Mini-Commander I traded for and then traded off, as far as I can tell the only real change was the removal of the backspacer for the standoffs. They are threaded with screws on both sides.

I have never had a knife with standoffs fail structurally and I personally prefer the look of the standoffs. Plus it makes it so much easier to clean if it were to ever really need it. For myself anyway.

I had a CQC 15 with the standoffs, got rid of it... didn't like the standoffs at all.

For me personally Emersons just have a " look " about them and the backspacer is part of that " look ".

It seems like they are trying to " dress " there knives up a little bit and I DO NOT want my Emersons " dressy "

Stop staring at your knives, take them out of the display-case and go use them. I am sure they still function the same. jk ;)

I just realized that stand-offs may ease manufacturing. Emerson no longer needs to make a different backspacer for each model, they instead just make a bunch of the same stand-offs that fit universally. Smart.

Also would eliminate threading the holes in the liners wouldn't it?

I don't stare at my Emersons nor do I have a display case, I actually carry and use mine. That would be one reason why I never bothered with the " fit and finish " thread... again part of the Emerson " look ".

Also I have been buying Emersons off and on since 98, I'm quite familiar with how they function
