Standup water bags

Several vendors sell clever zip-lok bags that can stand up sorta like rigid containers if filled with water and placed on a more-or-less level surface. This is said to make it easier to add water-purifying chemicals. One brand is Aqua-Pouch.

Turns out the bag that OceanSpray Crainsins come in also stands when filled with water. No grommets but stands. Other, similar bags may do as well.

[Now what happened to the pics? I got to "done" but no attachments. Hmmmm.]

Those types of water containers are handy. I've been using Platypus brand in several sizes for the past several years. They are very durable and don't impart any plastic taste to the water. They can be frozen and boiled.

Breast milk storage bags stand upright. They are thin plastic which would make them easy to carry, but less rugged.

Added bonus with the Craisin bag is you get cranberry flavored water if you don't wash it first.

:D

A little off topic, but be careful with using turkey roasting bags. The last batch I bought for my kits dripped like a motel shower and wouldn't hold water very long. Test them before relying on them.

Good point about the Craisin flavoring. Very "smellable," critterwise.

I tried some similar bags, but they didn't keep standing as well as the OceanSpray bag. It' still upright after five days.

I have a 4L Platypus that I have been using on a daily basis for a year or so to take water to work, and it's still going strong. The only issue I have seen with these types of bags is that if they experience a decent amount of pressure, they WILL pop open and spill water everywhere, so try not to drop or set anything heavy against them. :)
