Star Mate Date?

Danelle, you indicated in one of the posts that Star Mates are presently being delivered to some retailers. I think I reside in a knife waste land - there isn't much in the way of dealers around here. Do you know if any of the on-line dealers have got them? If they haven't yet, does anyone know when they're likely to start showing up?

I case you hadn't noticed, I'm a little pumped up about this knife.

Thanks,

Jack

Your're not alone NJ is definitely a Waste Land to purchase knives or guns. all my knife purchases are online.

I believe some members got them from Ironstone, www.fe3stone.com or 1-800-828-1925
Good Luck!

I picked up mine yesterday at a local store. The shipping boxes weren't even open, but from the invoice they could tell me that the starmates were inside.
I can tell you a super knife! Well worth the wait.
Thank You Sal.
Thank You Mr. Terzuola.
(No particular order)

I just ordered the last one that Ironstone had. Wow, I havent been this excited about a knife in a long time. Bob T is one of my favorite custom knife makers. I have always wanted a Bob T. but couldnt justify spending the money. Now I can have one of his designs, and Im sure it will be the typical Spyderco quality. Thank you Sal and Bob for making this happen!

CRAP! I pre-ordered a plain-edge Starmate from Ironstone a few weeks back. I was told that it would be about two weeks until it shipped out to me. After seeing the above posts that people had already received their Starmates, I called to check on the status of my order. I was told that the serrated Starmates are indeed in, but the plain-edges will be another month!

I sure wish Ironstone had the correct info when I ordered the knife. Another month... Sheesh.

I know the feeling. But you are smart for pre-ordering one. The gentleman I talked to at Ironstone today said when they get Spyderco's like the Starmate in they are usually gone within a day.

Hi Kelly!

Yes you are right. Mine is part. serrated.
When the plain edges arrive I have to pick another!

Gee, we here in the great white north aren't so badly off. I saw a plain edged starmate last night at S & R knives in Toronto. Great knife but my pockets unfortunately are empty these days. Sigh

As long as all the Starmate fans are looking here, lemme ask a few questions about the construction:

1) Is there a single liner, or double liners? If single, is it complete or partial, as in the Militray? Steel or titanium?

2) How far does the spacer go? As far as the highest screw? What's it made of?

3) I noticed another screw has been added since the prototype - anybody know why?

4) Is the handle medallion shown on the numbered examples going to be on the unlimited production as well?

5) I noticed that this knife is dimensionally almost identical to a large S&W SWAT (which is darn big) - anybody who's handled both care to comment on their relative sizes?

6) Should I pay my rent or buy this knife? (just kidding, but I am setting my pennies aside, woohoo!)

Looking awesome... gotta have this one regardless of the answers to the above... but I'm always curious when "stalking" a purchase.

Cordury, I thought the Starmate felt smaller in my hand. Could be the shape of the grip. I was shown a collector's version and I was afraid to handle too much, not knowing the corrosiveness of drool on CPM440V (Vin help me out!) but Charlie at Ironstone was most gracious and let me handle several neat Spydercos and some other custom stuff they had at the store. A must visit if you are in Colorado, being it is a stones throw from the Spyderco factory.

Cordury.
Good Questions.
1. Single nested liner same as Military, same material.
2. About 3" back from pivot pin.
3. 3 screws made it stronger than 2, material is 33%GRFN.
4. Medallion will be on all production.
5. Blade length is the same as the Military.
6. Pay your rent.(I could be your landlord) just kiding.
Hope this helps, Its a great knife.
Vince.

Thanks, Vince! I was dreading chasing you down in the am to get these answers...and knowing you'd be running the other way like you always do!

Let me speak in Ironstone's defense, also..they carry Sypderco's FULL LINE, and get a lot of traffic..foot traffic, their internet site, mail orders, and tons of phone calls. And, let me tell you guys they are busting butt...They are so busy.
precision4 that posts here..in the forums is Charlie, from Ironstone..feel free to direct questions to him sometimes. Please dont ask him availability or ordering questions that could be answered in email or with a phone call. That could get crazy here on the forums!
I talked to him at length on Wednesday, and he is very knowledgeable and a downright cool guy. I certainly hope to have a lot more dealings with him, now that they will be a Spyderco Factory Direct operation. He did mention that he had missed some calls, and that they had had some internet troubles, so please be patient with them. He will get to you...
Thanks guys!
Danelle

I have two tiny questions for the spyder-crew:

Vince, what is 33% GRFN ? It is not listed in the small booklet in the materials description. My guess is it is similar to G 10 with 33% glass-fiber in it.

Danelle, are there any plain edge starmates out by now?

TIA

Can I guess that's glass ?rod? filled nylon - aka Zytel, if it's made by DuPont.
