Star Wars Trilogy DVD

I scanned through the DVDs to see if there were any changes made. The only change I saw in A New Hope (aside from the 97 special edition changes) was that the duel scene between Vader and Kenobi is now much faster and made to appear a bit more aggressive. Their lightsabres colors appear clearer as well.

In the Empire Strikes Back, the dialog between Vader and the Emperor has been altered and actor Ian McDiarmid (who played the Emperor in Return of The Jedi and plays Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious in the prequels) now appears in holographic form. Also, Boba Fett's voice has been replaced with that of Temuera Morrison who played Jango Fett in Episode 2.

As has already been stated, the younger Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christiansen) appears along side Alec Guiness and Yoda in spirit form at the end of Return of the Jedi.
There are a LOT of changes in the first/fourth(a new hope) dvd.
Jaba is now done a LOT better than before, the 'Gredo shoots first bit has been fixed up a bit(I STILL HATE it though,) the garbage creature looks a lot better, the corodors now appear to go WAY into the distance, and there is no longer ENGLISH text printed on the tractor beam control display!

I've always loved the original Star Wars series, but I'm not one of those rabid freaks who downloads schematics of ships and dresses up at conventions and whatnot.

Most of the changes I think are for the better. It certainly looks better. I kinda prefer the original where Han just shoots Greedo, but the change doesn't really bug me. I could do without a lot of the added animals since they just seem gratuitiously added. The only thing that really bothers me is the "blues" duet in RotJ at Jabba's palace. Even if it was in the original, I still would have spit Mt Dew all over the place exclaiming "WHAT THE F#$@?!?" All the other things don't really add much, nor "ruin" much, but WTF was Lucas thinking with that bit. It looks so out of place, and it looks (and sounds) awful.

Still, it's Lucas' movies, and he's got the right to do what he wants with them. And I'm not talking about "tampering with his vision" or any of that pretentios BS, but the rabid fans need to realize that it's not their place to send him a zillion angry emails telling him that he ruined his movie.

You're right, the DVD versions do look alot better.

James, I hadn't noticed the "alphabet" change in A New Hope until I whipped out my VHS 1997 Special Edition version and compared it. I guess it's those minor details that make it fun to watch the films all over again.

I agree that Lucas can make whatever changes he wants to HIS films. I guess there will always be those picky fans who want to dissect every aspect of the movies as if it were a true story and fuss about the most trivial stuff. These guys debate the reasons why Chewbacca doesn't wear any pants; ponder if 3PO and R2 are really "life partners" and complain why a real lightsabre hasn't been invented yet. It's a movie afterall.
