Staring at knives

You guys are just twisted. I hate to be so blunt but such obsession requires bluntness. I have seven... no, eight knives on my desk right now but I do not stare at them. I do talk to them occasionally. The 110 year old knife needs to know that the 40 year old knife next to it has not replaced it and the custom needs to know that it is appreciated as well. Calling my knife "my precious" and fondling it is just a part of the job of a dedicated knife whisperer. But I don't stare at them, no. That would be impolite.

Great post!

Anyone else ever get yelled at by their wife/girlfriend/mistress for playing with their knives around the cat/dog/baby? I mean, I hardly EVER drop them. I know what I'm doing, I don't need a nanny telling me when I can and cannot juggle these bad boys.

It's true what they say, age DOES bring wisdom!

You're not alone. I often feel like scrooge mcduck swimming in his money, except I sit on the couch watching tv, surrounded by my knife collection.

I love this post.

I walk around for my job so i keep them in my pockets
When i can get a new diafild knife sharpener ima keep that with me and sharpen my knives occassionally too.
I think its a stress relief. And its better than what some people do with them which is cut themselves (very sad)

I often sit and examine for a long time. My favorite one to examine is my Benchmade Adamas. It's just so smooth and the fit and finish is staggeringly perfect.
So no, you're not crazy.

Oh for sure!

When I'm at work (everyone's eyes are glued to the game) while I'm admiring my konosuke knives, and on my break I'm playing with the sebenza.

I do a lot of reading when at work, but not much staring. Unfortunately, it's not all Bladeforums stuff. I always try to keep my iPad open to BF, but at times it can be tricky.

I'm 52, and though I don't have a knife or knives next to my monitor, my computer desktop is a picture of three ZTs that I copied from here on Bladeforums (with permission, of course), the one of the 0200, 0301, and 0561 on the mirror with the black background. I have all three, so it's a good substitute for the real thing, I guess!

My alone time is almost always filled with admiring/flicking/flipping/fondling one of the knives in my collection, so you are certainly not alone in your obsession!

Knives are works of art (some are awesome while some are two year old drawing). So what could be wrong with appreciating art?

Im just glad to hear that Im not the only one. my ex couldn't understand and thought I was deranged. she couldn't understand much though. that's why I made her an ex

I'm not quite at the point of having them on my desk because I have a shared office. But.... I EDC some big knives that make a few people uncomfortable and from time to time I just like to run my hand along the handles. You know... to "check" if they are still in my pocket or on my belt...sign me up for the loony bin :)

Hate to admit it, but I have been known to engage in this type of behavior myself. Have a ZT 0560 and BM 810 keeping me company right now.
