Well, I have been waiting for quite some time for the release of this knife. The longer I waited, the more the suspense built. Kind of like Star Wars Episode 1. I hope I didnt get so excited during the wait that I anticipated too much that this would be my favorite knife. I now have one in my hands. I do think it is a beautiful knife and very well built. It definately has military quality. I think the Spyderco guys have learned alot from developing the military. I wish the liner had teeth like the military. At first I wasn't crazy about the way the handle felt, but the more I mess with it the better it feels. Anyway, great knife. I will buy another one when I can. I really want a plainedge. I thought I would like this knife better than the military. While it is close, I still prefer the military as an overall utility knife, but I think the starmate is more "tactically" oriented. I like the blade shape of the starmate,And not to nit pick but I wish the writing on the knife was engraved like the military. I am afraid it will come off fairly easily.

Bob T. is one of my favorite designers. I would like to thank him and Sal for making it happen. I am glad I can finally have one of his designs. I think this will be one of my daily carries for quite awhile. If anyone out there is wondering about getting one, stop thinking about it and get one.

I love Bob T's designs and now we have another useable Bob T design! I like the way the grip feels, My gripe is not about the grip but the glue that seeped out from under the medallion. Rubbing briskly with my thumb took most of it off.

Hi shootist16!
When I hanlded my starmate the first time I also thought about the serrated liner, but two days later I changed my mind. It would be too much like the military. As my military is serreated the serrations on the blade match the serrations on the liner. Just imagine how the plain-edge starmate will match with the non serrated liner.
I'll need a plain-edge starmate.

Danelle, can you tell us when we can expect them? I am also curios about the numbers.
Any info would be apprechiated. TIA

Greg.
At this time there are no plans to make the C55 in a left hand version.
Red.
The C55 are shipping about 75 pcs per week and the first 1000 pcs will be numbererd.
Hope this helps.
Vince.

Where can I find a picture of the Starmate? I don't see it on the Spyderco web page. Does Ironstone have any?

Has anyone already disassambled the starmate?
I tryed yesterday, but when I took the pivot screw and 4 of the little ones out the knife still held together. It was no prob opening and closing the knife. I didn't dare to go any futher before asking aroud if anyone was there already. Are there any tips?
I guess it is some kind of glue, but how to remove it and then reaply it?
greetings

PS: why? just curious!

The stop pin on the C55 is press fitted in to both scales, no glue just a very good fit.A word of caution do not remove or turn the pivot pin as this will efect the lockup of the knife.
Have a good day.

I obtained a Starmate last week and like the overall design, quality and execution of the knife.

However I do have one minor complaint. That is the grooves on the back (spine) of the blade don't seem to provide any grip. Seems like they should be more pronounced or maybe moved up toward the hump of the blade?

However this is not a serious enough problem to keep me from purchasing a plainedge as well.

If your wondering if you are able to open this knife left-handed, you can.

You need to start opening the knife with your index finger then use your thumb to finish opening it.

It's a little slower, but it gets the job done.

I don't have the Starmate, but Bob T's other Spyderco knife, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Is it me, or will this knife become second only to the Military? A friend got his last week and said the more he handles it and uses it, the more he's impressed by it.

Looking forward to saving enough bottle tops to and Green Stamps to get mine. :-)

Actually, the more I handle mine the more I think I like it....dare I say.....more than the military. I absolutely love this knife. I cant say enough good things about it.

I have to agree with Dennis (Shootist 16), the more I handle my Starmate, the more I like it. I have been carrying mine for over a week now. Cut everthing from cardboard to cake. Great knife! Even with the 50/50 blade!

Stop it everyone! This Starmate fever is contagious! You've given it to me, stop before others are infected!

Anyone know where a regular guy withouth all of your connections can get one of these?

I've just received my Starmate #336 and it is everything I thought it would be. THe shape of the blade is very Pleasing and the handle feels good in my hand, balance is good and overall the knife is plain neat.I have a early C-15 Bob T and it took some getting used to but this one is just right. I need the plain edge now.Good job Sal and Bob T.
