Hi,
I handled a couple of Starmates today at my local dealer and I really start to like that solid and beautifull knife.
How many of you do have a Starmate and what do you think of it. Oh, and by the way do you have combo or plain please elaborate.
thanx Matt from Munich

I have a plain edged StarMate, and I believe that it comes closer to perfection than any folder that I have felt, including the Military and the Carnivour. It fits me to a "T".

I have a combo edge Starmate and would love a plain one also. It is very light and comfortable to cary for large knife. The blade is wonderful and it is not too hard to sharpen if you don't let it get too dull.

Buy one! Very nice I have a plain edge. Very sharp and I really like the look and feel of the thick blade. I made a couple of modifications one of which Courdaroy recommended and now the knife is easily one of my favorites. I only wish the handle end was a little heavier, maybe titanium liners would do the trick. Beggers cannot be choosers and I had to go pretty far just to come up with that idea. Overall a great knife.

Go for it! Mine's combo and I'm planning to buy a plain edge Rolling Lock Starmate next year. However, if Bob T. wanted to enlarge the Starmate to the size of a Military, I wouldn't complain....

Take note on how many like the plain edge better: The serrations aren't quite like on knives made of other steels -- don't feel quite as sharp/the plain edge handles lots of materials very well indeed and the better edge retention isn't needed as much in CPM 440V.

Apart from that, you can't go wrong with a Starmate if it fits your hand.

I got the combo and I love it so much I sold my Military (gasp!)

I sent it to Corduroy for a few mods and it shold be even better. It's a wonderful knife.

I love my combo Starmate.Either blade will provide you with a tough user knife you`ll be happy with.

I agree that you will love your Starmate no matter what configuration your blade is. I don't care for combo-edges but I got one on my Starmate and I am liking the combo-edge more and more.
BTW The modification Corduroy is offering is a capital idea. I did it on mine and it made an excellent knife an outstanding knife.

If it's stupid but works, then it isn't stupid.

Starmate, should you really? Yes, you should. IMO, the best Spyderco so far. I have the straight edge. Edge holding is beyond belief. You wont be sorry.

Best by far! Purchase one, you will not be disappointed. Everything about the knife is great

Buy one! I have a serrated, but want another in a plain edge. I sent mine to Corduroy for the modification. Best factory made knife I have handled. Great ergonomics and great blade design. Also the CPM440V is a great choice for steel.

I like the Starmate... my roommate owns one, so I get to handle it quite a bit when he's not looking

the only things I don't like are the slightly slippery handle and the way the linerlock is so exposed... i'm used to the AFCK style of having the liner just stick out a little bit, and I've just gotten used to it I guess.

I love the blade shape.. at first i thought "hmm, that's ugly." but it's definetely grown on me as a unique piece...

whether or not I get one has yet to be seen... i want a wrench too
