I got a piece of S30V stock and have been playing with it for a bit. I am new to knife making and I understand that I chose a very difficult steel to work with, but with that being said I am having a good time working with it.

On the first blade that I cut from the slab, I did the bevel by hand with a file and a lot of sand paper. I think it turned out ok. It seems to be straight and fairly even. Hard work though. The forum members were not joking when they said it would take time using hand tools with that metal. We'll see how it turns out.

The next blade I cut from the stock was a small sheep foot neck knife. I am going to put a flat grind using a belt grinder on this one. Itll be easier and more precise, but at the same time it wont have the handshaped bevel which I think is pretty cool because of the uniqueness.

Anyway here is a picture of the sheep foot cut out and ready for bevel grinding.

Thanks for all the great information on this site. It sure is usefull :)

Buy yourself a 1x30 grinder from harbor freight for $40 and a couple good steel cutting belts from any knife making supply store $10 and you will find that s30v is not to difficult to work. Looks like a nice design for a warncliff style neck knife.

Finished the bevel and its ready for heat treat. I ground some marks into the side. It didnt turn out as good as I was hoping but Im not mad at it, and the blade turned out pretty damn straight. :)
