I got into knives because I like camping. I live in Ontario and I mostly only summer camp but I started looking for the "ultimate" survival knife. First some dude on Youtube got me excited about big, FFG, high carbon knives, so that I could baton through a redwood. I didn't buy it but I certainly considered some high-value large blades like the Kabar large heavy-bowie, several Ontario knives, and a bunch of ESEE knives. I kept looking and really started thinking about my POU. I also picked up my first knife a SOG Flash 1 for keeping in my pocket and carry most days. I think its a great knife, it's sturdy and small and sharp. I use it all the time. The pocket clip bent a bit (I think I can fix it w a hex key). I'm happy with the knife. $59 from www.warriors and wonders including delivery and local %13 sales tax.

Next was a steel infatuation, I wanted to have the best steel, the newest CPM steel on the market. Steel is actually pretty complicated but I learned what I could about strength and toughness and HRC, carbides, Damascus steel, stainless steel vs high carbon and although I'm tempted to get some CPM s30v, things like temper and experience knife making with a particular type of steel are maybe even more important. Basically I wanted a super sharp, super tough knife with some stain resistance. I got an Entrek Badger $100 all in and its sharp as shit and super tough, but a little thick for what I really need. I'm happy to have it (it destroys small sticks into dry fuel for my woodfired survival stove), I would probably trade it if anybody wants it (I really wish I had got his Scandi - thats a sexy knife).

I also wish I could spend on sharpmaker, but insted I got a double sided wetstone and a strop. Now all my kitchen knives are sharp again:)

Grind was another consideration. FFG? Scandi? The pros and cons of convex. I finally settled on a Turley Soldier river and a convex grind. I ordered one from Iz Turley (who was great to deal with), but unfortunately his work is in high demand and I am now on a 2 year wait list and I need something sooner than that. I agonized over a Barkie Aurora vs a Falkniven F1 or S1. Again my primary use for my new knife will be bushcraft/camp cooking/fishing. Although I think KSF is just about to get some CPM Auroras I'm a little price sensitive and they did have an S1 on sale so I bought it for about $160. It should get here soon, any ideas where I can get a kydex sheath for it? I can't wait to be livin outdoors again!

I still want a Turley and an Entrek Scandi. And I really want a Barkie. And a Bantang. And a Benchmade. And a And a Spyderco millitary.

I need help, nice to meet you.

Everything you've described sounds perfectly normal to me.

Welcome to the forums. :D

Deal-spotting is recommending or linking to a dealer who is not a paid Bladeforums Dealer member.
Fortunately I didn't see any of that here.

I dunno. you sound pretty normal to me.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the "Some dude on YouTube" was Nutnfancy... While he kind of got me into high value knives as well, I've kind of strayed away from his videos.
Anyways, check out Busse. Nothing better than INFI.

Your "problem" will soon become a crisis... You won't be able to stop, you'll begin to blow paychecks on fallknivens and Busses. You'll stay up all night watching knife reviews on youtube, scowering the forums. It's an incurable disease........ Join the club lol

At some point, just make sure to get out and use your knives. Life on the web is not as much fun. Welcome.

Welcome to the forums, Campguy!

For great outdoor fixed blades, the ESEE or Ka-Bar/Becker offerings are fantastic---worth taking another look!

Cheers!
