That sword is breathtaking!!
Fantastic execution by Yuvraj.

Interesting tsuba, I wonder where that came from. We need to make sure they arent using cast metal handguards, they will shatter upon impact.
The blade itself looks great, but the handle seems to be slightly out of alignment with the curve of the blade, which is a common "quirk" of the HI katana. (It could just be the angle of the photos)
If we can get these Japanese styled swords from HI to be one smooth curve from tip to pommel and make sure that the guards are of sufficient strength, then they ought to be a fantastic addition to the lineup.

I hated that I couldn't grab that one when it was up...

I saved all the photos and drool over them every now and again...

I love the look of HI's swords, but why are so many of them so short? My only thought is that people from Nepal aren't very big. If I held that thing, it would look like a kid's toy.

This particular sword is the HI rendition of the Wajaski, or the traditional short sword worn in the belt of the Samurai. From my limited Hollywood knowledge, the Wajaski was used as an in home defensive sword. The Samurai would remove his katana at the door, and keep the smaller sword within reach for close quarters combat.

Perhaps one of the experts could give us a little more insight into this. Danny?

The other reason that i believe HI swords tend to be short is that shipping items much longer than 36" tends to be more difficult and expensive.

Hi Last Visible Canary

Wanted to let you know that the Katana that you drool over has been well kept and used.

it took a bit to get used to the weight in doing my sword form so I do a straight two handed Chinese form. Also tested the blade on wood for impact and cutting. Great sword for the $.

Take Care
Alan

I believe swords of this length are purpose built for fighting indoors as Gunz has said above. I have swung the average length Katana and even a normal length rapier is a bit clumsy in closer quarters.

I have a number of shorter swords around this length and I'm 185cm (6' 1') so I'm not small and find that this length goes very well indoors, even with very heavy blades like the Hanwei Banshee, where you need some good follow through to make flowing movement.

Makes me think of the classic movie joke when the swordsman unsheaths his sword and raises it above his head and then 'thunk!' into the ceiling it gets stuck hehehehe.

Steely Gunz, I figured that wajaski was a misspelling of wakizashi, but even the HI katanas are pretty short. I have a 27" HI Indonesian sword in my office and everyone thinks it is a machete, rather than a sword. I'd like to see some katanas with a blade of 29"-30" and an overall length of 40".

Yeah, the Japanese had many length weapons. Depending on who you were, where you were and who was in power, you might have up to four blades on you, but always you had the short sword or Shoto.

(wakizasshi is fine too)
