(Hi.
I'm new here.
You have beautiful forums, really, congrats.)

I'm starting a collection just today and wanted to share.
Here is my choice.
My idea is to have a "close to perfect" knife in every category (toughness, design, tradition, etc).

SPYDERCO Manix 2 / SC101GP2 (Because I wanted a tank)
BUCK 110 Folding Hunter Fingergroove / BU110FG (Because I wanted an all-time classic)
KERSHAW Leek / KS1660 (Because I wanted a Ken Onion folder)
SOG Tech Bowie / SOG99018 (Because I find the blade magnificent - as simple as that)
SOG AE04 Black Aegis TiNi / SOG99139 (Because I wanted a mall ninja weapon... yeah, I know this is stupid... but don't we have the right to be stupid sometimes?)
LEATHERMAN Supertool 300 / LM39210 (Because I wanted a serious multi-tool)
SOG Access Card / SOG99133 (Because I wanted a mini-knife)

If you were me and you wanted to extend this collection in new directions, what would be the next buy(s)?
Any comments, ideas, advices, are warmly welcome! Thanks in advance!

(And... I know that 3 Sogs on 7 knives means much too many Sogs in your eyes... But wait: I don't necessarily plan to buy many more Sogs... So, when I have 20 knives, the 3 Sogs won't disturb you that much... but you have to convince me to buy 13 more knives!!! :D )

The Leek and the Manix and leatherman are good EDC choices. I'd wait on the others. Your opinion might change. The Manix is an awesome knife, but not a tank. If you want a tank you should look at Cold Steel folders that have triad locking systems. My voyager ($40) is a knife that was made to be used and abused. My favorite is the Kershaw s30v Blur

I rarely buy knives. I wouldn't call myself a collector by any means but when I do buy, I buy what I like, not just to expand the collection. I usually end up selling the blade if it doesn't get much use. I'd say to buy what you like at the time. Obviously the answer is Sebenza, though

Crkt M16-13T ...titanium handle, slim profile, Aus8 blade 8-ish" folder with Carson flipper......

Very good IMHO.....

+ 1 for a Benchmade 710, an all time classic, axis lock and a lot of blade in a thin package

You can't even begin to call it a collection without a Case knife in the mix.

Get a custom knife made to your specs. That one ought to be closest to overall perfection. I'd suggest a Phil Wilson custom for the "best slicer" category. Though even after I got that, I still ordered a custom Buck 110 and had it engraved for further personalization.

Thanks to you all, dear first answerers! Your suggestions are precious! And feels great to see that you all have different tastes... it's the beautiful result of individual freedom meeting the great knives market!

I'm confused? Do you own these already or are you looking to expand a list of possibles for consideation?

The Buck 110 is a classic. I have several of them. I like the SOG Access Card 2.0 as it is a very useful desk knife but a little expensive. I have one.

I would suggest you look at the Spyderco line such as the Delica or Endura. Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) makes some excellent folders that you might take a look at. Blackjack knives are pretty cost effective high quality fixed blades. I like the M125 and 1-7. Fallkniven makes some great knives including higher end folders and a broad range of fixed blades. You seem to like SOG stuff, so I would suggest you look at the Mini-Vulcan and the Seal Pup Elite. Both very good users.

No collection is complete without at least one Randall.

Case and Queen make good folders.

Folding
ZT 0301
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Miliitary
Buck Vantage Force S30V
CRKT HISSATU

As for the 110 yes it is a classic , so much so that I have used 3 of them, everyone of them the tip broke off and not due to abuse its just to fine a point , and the knife is pretty heavy for EDC so Im done with them. My Spyderco endura has never let me down and the edge lasts at least 10 times longer than the buck

Spyderco Endura or Delica- Great EDCs and they started the whole one-hand opening/locking blade/pocket clip thing - AFAIK.

Sebenza - Isn't there a law?

Fallkniven F1 - I'd say it has become a classic. Its also the all-around best small fixed blade value, for my money anyway.

Griptillian or Mini-Grip - Great value workhorse EDC folder. Good ergo's, Axis lock, great blade to handle ratio, and most fun to play with - also quickest to pull/use/ and put away.

For a real tank, you need to check out at least a ZT. Or go all out for a Strider, XM-18, etc.

Benchmade 42 - Classic flipper

Opinel - Get one and you'll know! All-time classic + great inexpensive functionality

Benchmade 710 - Another classic for when you want something pretty AND deadly ;)

SAKs - A whole 'nother collection possible here, but you've got to have at least a couple

G. I.-type Kabar - Isn't it obvious?

That's enough homework for now. Oh, wait - we haven't even mentioned traditional slipjoints yet!
