Starting it all over...

To say that contentment can be found in a spiritual belief in God is indeed true, for some, but to say that true contentment can only exist with a relationship with God or by reading the bible is rubbish. There are many ways of percieving this existence, and there are many ways of finding truth and contentment. One can be quite content with simply nature and no "God" as well...perhaps even moreso. There is no right or wrong way, there are only different ways/paths.

I belong to another forum whose rules are: No religion or politics. I think it would be a good rule here, as well.

Honestly while I can see the allure, I encourage you try it for 2 days before making such a bold statement.

Even the American Indians had a hard time living off the land, and they had about 20-40 thousand years under their belt.

The man-made crap is the concrete jungle.

For brick and mortar breed filth and crime,
With a pulse of evil that throbs and beats;
And men are withered before their prime
By the curse paved in with the lanes and streets.
And lungs are poisoned and shoulders bowed,
In the smothering reek of mill and mine;
And death stalks in on the struggling crowd
But he shuns the shadow of oak and pine.

Sorry I'd love to talk through this with you about religion, but like doc said this is not the right thread or place.

If y'all would pony uip the $10 to register you could talk about it to livelong day in PMs.

We can also talk about it in Whine and Cheese, but it will quickly degrade to an insult match.

I believe the original post was about being satisfied with life, ie. contentment. I don't think God likes "religion" and neither do I but I was not talking about "religion", I was talking about a relationship that God wants with every one of us, and how my personal relationship with Him brings me contentment. I know Him and more importantly He knows me, so I can talk from first hand experience about the contentment that only He can bring. You can agree or disagree, and we can still be friends either way, but for me to not talk about Jesus when these matters come up would be like denying that I exist.

To continue to talk about your beliefs in a 'world wide forum' about wilderness and survival skills, with members of all religious denominations and faiths is disrespectful.

I'm glad that you have a faith that is rewarding to you, but this is definitely not the time nor place.

There is no disrespect here, just disagreement. We disagree on a lot of matters in this forum but can still fill free to discuss them. If we are not comfortable with any discussion we can always ignore it. I hope we can keep that freedom here.

I think that what Doc and others are saying is that — as Doc pointed out — there is a time and place for everything, and this is not the place for proselytizing.

Yes, there are many things discussed and debated in the forums, but most forums — such as this one — have specific themes. The theme of this particular forum is W&SS, not faith nor religion.

Perhaps you would feel more comfortable discussing that kind of thing on a religious forum, and confining yourself to W&SS when on this one.

Listen to Doc: a wise man, Doc.
