Starting knife collection

Hahahaha each to their own!

i believe that a huge knife collection could potentially give you cause to have regret, such a feeling i had when i was collecting knives, and i collected knives that were built for use (spyderco, bark river, white river, buck, rmj tactical, moorhaus, spartan blades fallkniven, helle, bastinelli, mora, semi customs from kci etc) i regretted it mainly because i spent all this money amassing a knife collection that saw no use, so i downsized greatly and kept the knives i was going to use daily. point being, i think in my honest opinion you should collect knives as you use them, don't collect knives just to collect them, that way, they will give you the most pride. you will be able to see a decent collection of knives all with character and signs of use, making them tools and not showpieces - IMHO

Thanks for the advice!! Any suggestions of where to find sheaths that attach to the leg/thigh?

I have no idea on where to find that type of sheath attachment. The more unique ways I've been able to carry are around the neck or boot carry other than off the belt or inside pockets. I do have a Fox Golok that has a unique sheath that have additional straps to stabilize while carrying the knife since it is a large knife. Good luck and be safe.

Thats about where I'm at with it. I have a handful of knives ill hold onto just because I think they're cool but I had thousands invested in knives that sat there for years. Ive been thinning things out and holding onto a handful (or two) of knives I enjoy the most.

When considering a new knife, I ask myself what does a new blade offer that I don't already have?
That is something I am (albeit slowly) learning. I am at the point that I no longer want to buy a knife, for the sake of JUST buying a knife.

indeed, you want in your hand a well-worn knife, with scrapes and scratches, "rubbings and stains" that show the knife was well loved and used. I'm not shaming collectors by any means, I'm just admitting guilt in the money I've spent on pieces meant for show and tell; so to make a round-a-bout to the OP ask yourself, do you want to collect knives, or use them? ultimately they come with different personalities.

Greetings, i agree. there are only so many shapes, all which make certain tasks easier, and in some cases, possible. but eventually you will have all those different shapes, then you will need to re-assess the Oh-so-burdensome topic of needs vs wants. of course us knife users would love a tanto in elmax or cpm 3v instead of the 440c we currently have, which you can even make an argument that those steels will perform much better than the 440c --- however for most of us is always a question of budget

Can you even get knives in the UK anymore?
i get the joke, but yes you can, it will be harder for some types of cutely, same in the states, specifically NYC, the DA there has banned folding knives and called them switch blades or something, only because they possess the thumb inertia that, to him, reminded him of the old 1950's italian milano switch's from italy, the man is insane and on an unjustified warpath. That aside, yes you can
