Starting to get into fixed blades more

i love fixed blades........i got kabar USMC, Becker bk9, leatherman surge, and a cheap pocket knife. I only have 2 fixed blades but since im only 13 i don't have that much money to spend.......I'm aiming for a kabar heavy bowie :D.

I just recently started EDC a fixed blade, today its my Rat-3. If you want a sweet little FB to EDC, check out a Case Little Finn.

I've found my thinking developing along similar lines also. Being a city slicker I find folders much more useful. I've got more than enough to last me the rest of my days though and lately I've been paying more attention to medium sized fixed blades. I picked up a Blackjack Classic 125 and it's a beauty. The BRKT Manitou has also caught my eye. I'm also considering picking up a Kephart-styled knife. There's just something about the simple fixed blade that calls to me.

I did the exact same thing as the OP... Started being interested in knives a long time ago, but almost entirely focused on folders...

Then, I bought an izula... now I find myself selling folders to pay for new fixed blades...

I also like my fixed blades (all two of them). I have so many folders right now, I'm in the process of selling some of them to fund some fixed blades. I'm not sure what I want yet but the IZULA looks interesting and many people give it rave reviews.

I started out with folders, since I always thought they were easier to carry and smaller. Like you, I discovered a myriad of smaller fixed blades and the simple elegance is attractive - no need for fancy locks and different ways to open and close. And much easier to clean for me.

The knife in my avatar right now is just 5" overall! :p

Same experience and feelings here. The knife in my avatar has an OAL of 5 3/8".

BTW, the first time I used a small FB after carrying a folder for a long time, I tried folding it after using it which of course didn't work. Good thing I didn't just throw it in my pocket!
