Starved Rock Part III (Very Photo Heavy)

Thanks. Sometimes I think about getting a higher end camera, but damn this little Sony works good.
 
Warrior great pics, I was raised in central IL and still get down that way often for hunting and camping. I bet it sounded like a war zone out there, Sat was the opener for duck and goose in that zone. If you have not been to Matheson its worth checking out. Its just down the road from Starved Rock and generally much less crowded and more natural (less stairs and wooden paths). If you get back to lot 10 in the Vermillion area there is an awesome trail that goes back to some bluffs over the vermillion river. Usually never a soul back there most people don't know that its part of the park due to the mile long residential driveway and rock quarry you have to pass through to get to it. With the water so low you can walk the river bed for miles in really beautiful country. I found this little "secret" area while getting lost squirrel hunting. You will need a park map to find parking lot 10. You Stay left on the main trail and you can't miss the way down to the river from the bluff. Its not trail marked like the rest of the park so you have a way to find your way back if you don't want to backtrack the same trail.
 
The link to the are sweet too, all of those areas look familiar. We were planning a camping trip to Giant City in Southern IL last weekend. But the baby is teething and just found out the we have another on the way soooo fall camping trip postponed due to crabby baby and the wife's morning sickness. Have fun in your fall color travels.
 
We were thinking of hitting Garden of the Gods this weekend, but will probably just go camping. Giant City State Park is a good time too. Been there a few times.

Your photos are fine man, really nice vivid color and clear. I wouldn't worry about another camera unless that one starts giving you trouble or you start selling your photographs.

I hear ya. I do manipulate my photos with the GIMP program. This little camera has been great. My son dropped it in a deep mud puddle at Yellowstone for about 20 seconds, and it still works just fine.

That would be one advantage to packing a high end DSLR...more ability to adjust the settings to make the photo more like what the eye sees...as most cameras have difficulty with that in certain lighting. But I can usually adjust light. dark, and color saturation to compensate. I don't suggest lugging a DSLR unless you just get really serious about photography, need larger files, or start selling your photographs. DSLRs are heavy for hiking with, and cumbersome to boot. Lisa's little Nikon cool pics (the p&s she is using in the foraging thread I posted) takes really good photos, has high resolution, a decent zoom, does video, takes large files, and a is smaller than the average cell phone. I think she gave about $160.00 for it. Now I want one myself for days when I'm in the woods and not working...which is rare...because my old Canon, while it takes nice pics, has seen a lot of miles and has taken right at 100,000 photos and is developing some quirks.
 
I'd like to get one, a DSLR, that is. Not in a hurry to get one, but have thought about it many times though. I've been told I should be a photographer so many times, thought about getting better equipment, and perhaps selling my work.
