State of the collection

I am glad to see I am not the only one with a large collection of "knives in tubes/boxes stored in a crate" type of displays!

The bulk of mine is a plastic milk crate on shelf in the top of a closet, containing both empty and full tubes or boxes. I probably have a couple dozen on actual display on a shelf and another 30 or 40 in a desk drawer, laid out in layers with a piece of soft cloth between each layer.

If I live long enough to retire, going through all of that and cataloging it all is on the to-do list.

Earlier this year I did a purge down to the knives that I couldn’t do without. The ones that stayed for the ones I really love carrying or the ones that had a story. Now I’m slowly growing the crew back. Every time I get a new knife I take through a honeymoon phase before I commit in my mind to make it a keeper. I can’t seem to make myself carry stag and I can’t get rid of the two GEC stags I have. They may just hang out in the knife pouch as the only safe queens. I keep my current users in this tray that was a watch storage box that I cut the top off of. They are in a drawer with my keys and wallet and such. The knife pouch is in a cabinet right above so they aren’t far away if I get a whim.

The 59 acrylic comes in today. Let the honeymoon begin!

Those wristwatch boxes are great!

My mother bought this one for me about ten or fifteen years ago when I was more into watches. I’m just getting back into knives after a twenty year hiatus, apart from work knives, I’m still figuring out what I like. Haven’t been able to physically lay my hands on any GEC yet, but they sure look great in photos. That’s a nice collection.

That’s a sharp looking selection of watches and knives! Love the Lionsteels. If you are interested in picking up some GEC’s for fair prices, get the exchange notification on your email. I’ve gotten some good ones that way 👍🏼.

Thank you! I appreciate that. Even if I don’t buy anything I really should up my membership. I’ve seen some nice ones on the exchange, like you said, for fair prices. It’s a slow process but I seem to be more comfortable spending money on slipjoints than on tactical/moderns.

Well time to update my thread as I will use it to look back through the years of whats new and what is gone. I initially held off to just 10 for awhile lol. Over the last couple of months.....not so much. I have really enjoyed the first year and have met so many great people.

Gec and the Lambsfoot pattern has really been my focus. Particularly GEC patterns I enjoy and not so much every pattern that comes out. I find myself grabbing the 86 and 85 patterns often to go along with my usual Lambsfoot everyday.

Along the year I have been gifted these wonderful knives. Thank you Jeremy, Martin, Todd, Suave, Maison, and Marc. It really is special recieving a gift and I look forward to paying it forward in the future.

The collection snapshot will show BF knives top right, Gec middle right, Lambsfoot bottom right, Misc top left, Case left middle, and finally older or vintage bottom left. The knife on the far bottom is my first custom, a JH Loyd. Not included are an 85 and 88 that are with Glenn being recovered.

Again my intention is not to brag or boast but to keep a journal of my knife collecting journey for me to follow in the years to come.

One of the big reasons that many of us frequent these forums is to celebrate each other's collections, it builds camaraderie and friendships. It's awesome to show off your collection and allow others to share in your enthusiasm, I hope you never feel that it's verboten.

You have some very fine knives in there and it's a delight to see them.

To the topic of the thread, I gift far more than I ever sell and I still have way too many 😁 . I consider myself fortunate.

Sometimes its hard to post with context that is often lost in text. Your compliments are appreciated Dylan. I always look forward to your posts and amazing pictures.

I hadn’t seen your thread when you first posted it. Looks like your plan to get down to 10 resulted in a finer collection than you started with, along with the great connections you made in the porch. Great outcome!

My 2023 goal is part with half my belongings. It’s arbitrary. I am well on my way with lots of gifting and donations. I haven’t tackled my knives yet, I think I’m procrastinating 😬

Yeah 10 is no longer realistic lol. Didn't think I would jump head first into this like I have. Good luck on the parting. Im sure it won't be easy.

I'm glad you like the pink camo Case stockman! I have its twin, and it is legit one of my favorite knives to carry. It's a very specific aesthetic for a most discerning gentleman!

Also, what is the story with this knife? Cover material, maker, steel?

That is an early JH Loyd custom. It is his slim swayback in mammoth and 52100 steel. Funny that you mention that because it is packed up and going to a good friend today. He shown interest in it and we worked something out for it.

The Pink Case stockman has grown on me Marc. I thought I would never use it but it has found its way in my pocket on a few occasions. Thanks again buddy.
