State of the Forum Address.
Ladies and Gentlemen of BladeForums I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for making this site THE resource for knife information.
I would also like to thank each of the manufacturers who have joined our TEAM. The Internet is an incredible medium in which many have shied away from.
Why? Well the Internet can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Especially if your customers have direct access to a public medium in which they can express their opinions, good or bad. Many manufacturers view this as a clear open liability, however others see the potential from this incredible vast resource. Much of the future of marketing a product depends on how you view the Internet and how you use it. Sure, you can throw up a web site and say you have done your job, but what about using the interactive nature of the Internet?
Some manufacturers see the potential while others view the Internet as not only a possible liability but they see it as the enemy. The manufacturers who actively work in this new medium have the most to gain from it.
In particular I would like to thank Sal Glesser of Spyderco. He came to this forum to answer a question which was very controversial involving his companys pricing policy. He handled the situation with flying colors. Thank you Sal.
The same can be said for Les De Asis of Benchmade. Benchmade started the forum craze with their own forum on their site. It is from there that we actually got our beginning. I made a post saying that maybe a forum site, which addressed all questions, should be built.
The rest is history and here we are.
In the past year we have created the busiest knife related web site in the world. With over 185,000 hits a day, 50,000,000 hits since inception & 3,500+ members we are king of the hill.
Making this site run effectively is no easy task. The man of the hour is Spark. His loyal dedication and after hours, behind the scenes work is what makes this site run. Thank you Spark.
The moderators that help us run this site deserve special mention here as well. They help us in ways which can not be measured. Keeping topics on track, offering their valued insight and knowledge to each forum is greatly appreciated. Please go to each forum and thank each moderator for the fine job they do. A pat on the back for unpaid field work is the least we can do.
And of course it comes down to each of you, our valued members. Without you, this site means nothing. You come here not only to ask questions and gain knowledge but many of you are helping other members get answers and this is what makes this site so special. Many times I go into a forum and see that a question has been asked and subsequently answered within minutes by a fellow member. Thanks to all of you.
The next year will see many more changes and additions here on BFC. The biggest new addition will be a on-line magazine. I will hopefully add it sometime this month. The first addition will be FREE so make sure you look for it soon! The on-line magazine will feature many articles and reviews, which will be much different from what you are reading now in the rags. The reviews will be REAL, no holds barred and if a knife fails, you will hear about it. We will have many standard features that you see in the rags now but with our own unique flair. There will also be some features which can not be printed and which will make our magazine unique.
We have added a calendar to our current site, so if you are looking for info on upcoming shows and events, make sure you check there first. If you know of something not listed, let us know. We hope to have every gun & knife show in the country listed very soon so keep checking back as we update that section.
Our Auction site is now FREE!
All dealers and sellers may now list their items in our auction and there will be no charge. I will run this offer as long as I can, perhaps forever.
We have now changed the format of this entire site. Over the next few days we will be tweaking it here and there to make navigation easier and we will announce more features.
With the new format we can now offer more forums. This means that more manufacturers and subjects will be added. All we ask from manufacturers who wish to have a forum here, is that they actively participate in their forum. We hope you enjoy all the new features and forums we add to our site.
As many of you know, this site costs us a lot of money to run. All we ask is that you help us out by visiting the BFC Store when you are looking for accessories or special items. I believe our newest idea, the Knife Of The Month Club will be the answer to our in the red situation. Look for this new addition to our store each month and participate in our survey to choose your favorite knife in each category. This month will be the first month and the winners are;
Fixed Blade Busse Basic #7
Folder Benchmade Axis 710 Series
Multi Tool Leatherman Wave
Neck Knife REKAT (I will offer both the Fang and the Utility!)
The sales of these items will hopefully generate the funds necessary to keep us running and to get really cool articles for our online magazine going.
Folks the next year will be a lot of fun. Stay tuned and enjoy the ride!
