Static buildup

I installed a piece of high temp glass on the front of my platen so save wearing groves in the plate. Now when I use it it builds up static and has become a very shocking situation. It's only when I use the platen and have checked the ground and also install an additional ground from the frame to the ground wire at the plug. Outside of removing the glass does anyone have any suggestions? I used high temp JB weld between the glass and the platen.

Thanks for any help.

The simplest and easiest and the thing that really works is to get yourself a can of anti static clothes spray and give the moving belt a spray for two or three seconds. If you take the belt off and use it later it will probably still be free of the static. Frank

Low humidity, cold air, and fast moving cloth over a glass surface = static buildup. Grounding the machine won't stop the buildup, because it is the differential between you and the grinder That is the problem. Having a ground strap attached to your belt will solve the problem. Put a 1 megohm resister in the line, just in case the motor or something gets a ground fault. I use a piece of chain with a 1 Meg resistor on one end (this end is attached to the grinder frame), and an alligator clip on the other end (I clip it to my belt).Solves the problem for me ( only a problem in the dry/cold of winter here).
Spraying an anti static spray on the belt and on your pants may also help a lot.

Thanks for the tip Frank. I'll have to try it this winter. Static was a HUGE problem back (many years back) when I worked in the Blue Room (ATC control room).
