status on the bushcraft knife?

+1 for the carbon and scandi grind, please. Although I must say....wow....I never thought Spyderco would ever consider such a project.....

How much longer?? (Yes, I'm more excited about this one than any other knife this year)

Until then I'll continue wrecking files, and trying to make one to get me by for now...:D

I've been anticipating this knife for a long time. Carbon steel and scandi grind all the way :).

So far we have scandi grind and carbon steel :)

Any ideas for the blade shape? Handle shape and material?

Thanks for the bump ,I did not even know this exciting project was in the works. 52100
is the perfect steel for a bushcraft knife. It is tough ,holds a great edge and will please the very conservative bushcraft market. I almost hope you don't make a stainless one because then I would have to buy both. The real skandis are usually stainless ,it is only the UK and North American market that demands carbon.

To be precise 52100 is tool steel. It is a high carbon steel wth some of the additives found in some of the super stainless like Vanadium etc but without all the carbon. In my opinion tool steels are the best steel for knife blades

I am sure a classic bushcraft blade in 52100 would be huge especially with the Spyderco name ,rep and distribution. A more modern VG-10 and G-10 would be cool as well although it would not have the "soul" of the traditional version.

Kudos Sal on having the guts to use a steel like 52100. It is not the easiest steel to work with. I am really looking forward to the Mule team knife. As for flat versus scandi I think you kind of have to go with skandi not because it is better but because it is what people want in a bushcraft knife. I would like to see a but guard like the one on the Skookum tool.

If I remeber correctly two versions where proposed :D

- "classic version": wood (natural) scales - 52100 blade - scandi grind

- "nasa version": carbon fiber scales - S90V blade - Full flat (or Convex) grind

I think we can move forward on this project at this time. There have been some issues on our end which have delayed the project.

I'll contact Chris and make sure he's ok with it.

This could bve the breakout fixed blade for Spyderco. The one that is ranked up there with
the classic folders like the Endura and the other must haves for a spyderco fan.
I am thrilled they are using 52100 but I wonder why when it was being troublesome they did not switch to A2? It would be just as acceptable to the bushcrafters as 52100 but is air hardening and presumably easier to work with.

Depending on the price this will be a must have in my collection. The challenge you have Sal is making a product that will represent a significant step up from a simple Mora. I'm confident this can be done. That said, it makes sense to release two versions sense a scandi grind does not appeal to all.

I can't wait for this project to take jpg. form! ;)

A Spyderco Bushcraft knife, and in 52100 no less! Great!

Looking forward to making that purchase,
