these are two large knives that I have nearly completed,I added the "butt spike" because it reminded me of a knife I saw in a movie. But after trying to make a sheath for one of them I can't figure a way to make the spike safe. So I am going to throw it to the experts, do I remove it by rounding it off, or do I leave it. If I leave it how could I make a sheath that is both functional and safe?

Those flavor crystals frighten me.

I'd round or square 'em off, definitely not sharpened.
They'd still be nasty strikers without being pointy.

Movie knives do not have to be carried by real people in real situations, and for the most part, knives incorporating "cool stuff I saw in a movie knife" typically appeal to mall ninjas and 12 year olds. If you are planning on actually carrying those knives, tone down the buttspikes! I also see a lot of potentially blister making corners on those handles and hardware

They are non users for sure and would look fine for display, as there is no practical use for butt spikes. However, for a sheath, a top flap that would fold over the top of the handle like many folding sheaths do might work.

I can see those doing some really damage to a victim....

It just so happen you are going to be that victim.

It is always a good policy when making a knife to ask "Why?"

Page, I read your comment and decided that I had better do some chopping with the handle on,(I usually test before I put the handle on), and you were right about the one with the rosewood handle. So now the question is, how do I fix it with out copping it off. The one with the buffalo horn was only slightly uncomfortable until I shortened the bottom guard on the back, now it is very comfortable. Here are some pics after removing the spikes, and of the stuff I chopped with them. I have to say that I am proud of the way that the edge held up, even after chopping a small oak, and a small maple you can still shave with both. The other Knife is one my brother gave me several years ago, I wanted to see how mine cut compared to it. That knife was destroyed with in a few seconds.

Have a look at Bill Moran

his handle is curvy and probably comfortable.

I definitely would want the edges of your guards to have some curves, smoother edges and such.
