I can see getting excited over the first snow of winter, but hasn't this gone on a little long? Back when I was a kid in Michigan, we walked to school through the snow and ice and howling wind and liked it. No matter how cold it got outside. And we didn't need any damned "wind chill" to make it sound colder than it really was. And that was before Global Warning took the edge off winter. When did y'all get so darned soft?

In all seriousness, it's good advice to both check your furnace filter, and to have supplies in your car to stay warm in case you are stranded.

Misc. trivia - A Russian Antarctic expedition was encountering somewhere around -70 and they found that eating butter was the best food to maintain body heat.
