Stay Smart Stay Alive

Mt. Washington surprises many people. It's not a big peak like the Rockies, but it sits at an interesting and often dangerous intersection of weather and terrain patterns.

Thanks for sharing, glad they got home safe.

There is a nice "dayhike" near us that gives people few people a good shock each year.

" it's only 5 miles round trip !"

Climbed Washinton this past Sept. Experienced 10 changes in weather and a swing of 35 degrees during the event. It is one dangerous mountain. The death list in the rest area up top makes for a sober read.

Oh yeah, and how about the death markers along the way? If you're coming back down there to hike it again, let me know - I'll try to swing up and join you.

I've only climbed MT Washington from along the AT but when I was there it was a beautiful sunny day. I have heard however how rough it can be up there and that it the summit the record for the fastest winds in the US (maybe even the world) and has gotten down to temperatures of -80 Degrees F. Pretty inhospitable place at times.
