Stayglow, how long will it last?

Just like the title says how long will a Victorinox with stayglow scales remain luminescent?

What do you mean, like after you charge them or if they will eventually lose their ability to hold a charge? If the first, it depends upon how much they are charged first. A couple of hours if hit with a really bright light for a minute or so.

I’m more interested in how long the scales will last (time in service not glow after exposure to light) before they lose it. Even the best “glow in the dark” stuff don’t last forever.

well I've had mine for almost 3 years now, on the keychain and when I charge them (even accidentally in the sun) they are like new and stay glowing for hours.

well worth it in my opinion.

Cool,3 years isn't bad at all.

If they start to loose their glow, you can always buy new scales and press them on.

Carl.

with those sturdy nylon stayglow, it would still look cool even though its loosing its capability to keep the glow...

but i bet it takes much more longer for that condition... i've seen quite old rescue toold that still glowing just fine when charged...

I know the printed on red shield wears off fairly quickly and looks tattered when doing so.

My staglow Classic and Huntsman are still glowing fine. Even if they're not glowing anymore, the bright yellow scales are still very useful, they make it very easy to find the SAK if you drop it.

3 years and no or very little wear on my logo which I use all the time;

maybe you keep it in tight pockets/places or possibly your harder on your tools.

also I've read "clone" or fake SAK logos wear easy.

what I have read about the glow/formula is if it is done right and there is little or no contamination in the material it will last for decades if not centuries and keep glowing good.

I'll let you know! lol

I hope the Stayglow lasts well as I've got quite a lot of them.
Has anyone got them really dirty with old motor oil and such-like, and if so how do they clean up? I always pamper mine and use a cellidor one for dirty jobs, as I'm worried dirt might be hard to remove from them.

I have a 3 year old stayglow classic, a 2 year old stayglow Huntsman and a used One-handed Fireman with brand new stayglow scales i bought from swissbianco.
The classic is EDC'ed on a keychain so it is slightly marred and dirty compared to the other two. However the SAK logo is holding up fine.
I did an "in the dark" test and at first the newer ones definitely seen brighter, but i've been charging them for a few hours under a desk lamp and while the classic and huntsman are still slightly duller they are getting their "oomph" back !
I think the main reason the OH Fireman scales seem brighter is just because it has so much more surface area.
In my experience L.E.D lights are really great for supercharging the scales so i may give the older ones some L.E.D loving, lol.
I wish they offered aftermarket stayglow grips for all the frame sizes as i'd like to upgrade a bunch.
Stayglow plus grips would be a good idea as well!
