Staying cool in the heat

Long sleeves and baggy trousers in light material
Big shade hat

And at least 3 liters/quarts of water a day
 
Well, survival expert cody lundin peed on his hankie and wrapped it around his face to stay cool. why wouldn't that work? :)
 
I do all of the above and also twist an ice cube or two up in a bandana and tie it around my neck with the ice on the back of my neck. Works very well.--KV
 
Wetting your clothes works fine in relatively dry environments.
Just be careful if the environment is too humid to effectively evaporate the water in your bandanas, hats or shirts, otherwise you will end up wet all the time and still very hot.

I keep a towel or sweat rag in the ice chest soaking in the cold water. Lay it over your head will keep body temp down. If an ice chest is not available I freeze a disposable bottle of water and keep it in a ziplock to act as a mini ice chest, keep the rag in the ziplock in my pack and it stays cold for 3+ hours. I lay the rag on my head as needed, then as the ice melts in the bottle I pour it on the rag for greater heat reduction. This works well for day long hikes as the remaining water in the ziplock is still cold enough at the end of the day to provide relief.
 
heh, I live in south Texas and it's 90 degrees by 8am right now. I stay cool by keeping well hydrated (I slosh when I've got enough water in me), wearing loose light clothing, and trying to stay in breezy shady areas when wandering in the woods.
I love to fish, and when fishing I wear a vented hiking hat over a bandanna that I keep dipped in water so there's plenty of cooling going on.

Anyhow, the best thing for keeping cool is to maintain your hydration. If you stop sweating, you're already in trouble!

Good hat, moist bandanna, plenty of water, keep the sun off of your skin, wear sensible shoes for the area (I like Keens sandals)
 
When motorcycling (I always wear full protective gear), a wet shirt under my jacket and a wet bandana around my neck do a great job. The same set up works well when hiking too, with the addition of a wet hat.

Good advice, I am thinking of getting a KLR 650 one day and plan on using all PPE I can out on.
