Staying sharp, in the brush?

I have some arkansas stones but I'm still learning to sharpen. I got a pretty good edge on most of my knives the other day but for some reason I wasn't having my luck with my BK2. I have this lansky sharpener that's like a cheap version of a spyderco sharpmaker and after a little bit I got the BK2 to shave hair. They aren't popping off but it will still give your arm a smooth patch with a few strokes. As an experiment I took a leather belt and put some rubbing compound on it and stropping on it actually makes a difference. It would help if I could get the knife really sharp to start with, then I wouldn't have to make 50-100 passes per side...

Patience and practice.

I carry a fine diamond hone and a butcher's steel. Don't know what brand name the diamond hone is. It's an el cheapo one I got at an army-navy store many years ago and it's always done a good job.

hey ethan do you just cut the stone down to size, I cant find a stone small enough to fit in the pocket.
I have been keeping a Norton Fine India in the pocket of my 16......I just spent the weekend with Jerry Fisk (way too much fun!!!) and got the straight scoop on the Norton.....Dr. James Batson phd(rocket science) and ABS Master Smith did some tests and got 40% better edge retention from a Norton edge......He is a bona Fide scientist type and gets no support from Norton.....They are very inexpensive and.I have found nothing better.....I also keep a DMT diamond hone on shim stock in my wallet.......It weighs nothing and has been handy......

All Best....

Norton lists several stones that are close in size to what you mentioned Ethan.

Look on this page for listings that include sizes for their various stones. The precision bench stone for pen knives, and the pocket stones in particular are right in line with what you posted dimension wise.
The India Sportsman pocket stone looks like a good candidate as it has the coarse and fine sides and is 3 X 1-1/2 X 1/2
