Steel: "01" vs "A2"

01 takes an unbelievably crisp fine edge and holds it very well.

A2 will take a fine sharp edge and will hold it well but it will take more work to get that edge.

this is one of 01's advantages in the field, it's ease of sharpening and maintenance.

The rust issue isn't really an issue at all. Both 01 and A2 will rust if not maintained, but not all that easily. Some folks seem to think that O1 will rust by your looking at it which just isn't so. If one forces a patina on an 01 blade then that helps to protect it from rust as well.

This thread is a little long in the tooth..As in started in 2007, revived in 2010,. Then back in 2015.

Yes..It's OH one. O1 to add my .02 :D

All My fixed blade knives are either in A2 (Bark River's), 1095 (ESEE/Rowan) or 1095 Cro-Van (Becker). I like them all but the 1095 seems to be the easiest to touch up in the field. How does 1095 compare to A2, and O1? Sorry if off topic.
