Steel: "4V", What is that?

From now on I'm just going to give the newest greatest steel a year designation. So what will be the first 2023 supersteel? We may have to do the month as well since they pop up about every month.

Well of course... 3V, 4V, whatever it takes. (Young people here won't get that reference.)
There are a LOT of different steels available today, 4V is one that hasn't been used in knives that much until somewhat recent years and it has a good mix of qualities. Depending on the qualities you want it might be one of the best available, although it is not at the top of the coolness ladder in terms of premium steels.
Those Millennials. Probably never even had an USA made knife either. The Greatest Generation and Boomers are rolling in their graves!

55-57 is crazy low for S35VN. That’s not taking advantage of its edge holding capabilities at all, it should be run closer to 60+ I would imagine
That's off their website, so they must've picked this for a reason. Maybe it chips too much at 60+ or would have to be even beefier than it already is, I have no idea, but they in general know what they are doing. 4V is an excellent all around knife steel, very good class of steels for general use. It is only superseded by MagnaCut now since MagnaCut also brings excellent corrosion resistance to add to other qualities of 4V. There are steels that are better in one or another category, but for a well balanced all around steel, 4V and even more so MagnaCut are very hard to improve on.

Steel of this year will be ApexUltra, even though MagnaCut should be "better" as an all around knife steel.

Yes and no.m
Okay, well, just to make you not lose faith in humanity... to me, some millennials are near-old, I'm midway between them and the next gen down, and I can reach 8 knives made in North America from where I am sitting right now :)
