Steel Advise For Fillet Knife, Please - -

I was going to let this dog go to sleep and fade away since I've decided on BG-42. B U T :

I was just wondering, and its not a deal breaker, does BG-42 buff up pretty well like D2, ATS, and others OR is it going to be stubborn like s30v. I'll let this dog die now but hope I get some advise on that question just so I'll have an idea of what to expect.

Thanks. RL

You will find that BG42 takes one of the nicest finishes of all. Double vacuum melting helps quite a bit.

A buddy of mine wanted a fillet in carbon steel,I really tried to sell him on stainless since I knew he would be using it around salt water(and I needed to learn how to make stainless fillet`s) but he insisted on carbon steel,I made this one for him in 1095,I baked on a coating of duplicolor exhast system paint from wal-mart to help keep the elements at bay(this stuff works better than you might think)The handle is green/black G-10,the sheath is kydex. He absolutely loves the thing and everyone he shows it to wants one like it.The only problem with rust is on the exposed edge, and once he hits it with a stone right before cleaning a mess of fish it`s good as new.

I really need to do a few stainless fillets,I live on the gulf coast and it seems that most of the fishermen around here have no problem spending hundreds of dollars on penn international reels, custom rods and all the best equipment money can buy and then go out and buy a $10 fillet knife from wal=mart.I really do think if there were some really nice custom fillet knives available they would sell like hotcakes.
