Steel controversy over?

I really like S35VN. I still wish that CRK would grind their edge bevels in a flat V grind, at 15 to 20 DPS. IMO, that would not only make the edges sharper, but certainly easier to resharpen. Maybe even hold an edge a bit longer(?). Also, I think it would better complement the high hollow grind (of the 21, for example). As far as S35VN steel itself, I have no complaints, and much prefer it to S30V.

CRKs come sharp but not that sharp from the factory.... putting a hair popping edge on their knife is the buyers job.... take a look at the wicked edge

They don't do that angle because it's softer s35vn and at that angle it would loose edge retention.

My Sebenza and Inkosi came with that convex edge. It is notnan intensive convex though so after a few sharpenings it has flattened out to more of V grind. That is just the consequence of the way I sharpen it. I am glad that it was softer and s35vn in some ways because convex grinds are tricky for me to sharpen.

I like the steel the way the steel is run by CRK. I don't get chipping problems and it is way easier to touch up free hand. If I had a worksharp or some kind of belt sharpener convexes and harder steels would be easier to touch up. Although for some reason I find M390 fairly easy to touch up.

I heard you can use a mousepad and sandpaper to do convexes. Doesnit work? If it does do I sharpen with edge forward stokes or edge dragging stokes?

I did not read any posts. But I have my Ti lock with 59-60 treatment. Since I reprofiled the edge after more than a year of use and removed some steel. I have excellent edge holding at 15 dps with a micro bevel of 20dps With this fine edge the strop keeps the edge maintained just fine for extended periods of time. The factory edge was not what I like at all, but since I know how to sharpen a blade it means nothing and was fixed in no time.

Convex is a CRK "tradition". Lot's of folks keep the convex because it seems to be the "CRK way". I prefer the way BellaBlades just described for knives I'm actually using a lot.

Reading through the comments I note that a few posters may have missed getting the update that CRK bumped the hardness up a point in 2014.

In regards to edge geometry, I think the convex is simply a result of how CRK chooses to do the actual work of creating the final bevel using a cork wheel. I am so very thankful they use the method they do. Not because I prefer convex, but simply because every CRK I own has had a perfect edge grind. Not necessarily super sharp, but even side-to-side, and tip to-pivot, with no wonky spots. I can handle putting the hair-popping edge, flat bevel, or mirror finish on myself, given a perfect starting point. This ability to reliably grind symmetrical edges is one of the least discussed, yet most impressive things about CRK knives. I hope they continue to produce the beautiful edges they do!

I am satisfied with the heat treat these days. My bank account is thankful the Inkosi did not come with S90V or something like that because I would cave in and get one. For now I have held on to my 25 and plan to for a while longer.

IMO CRK's steel has always been great. It does exactly what it is intended to do. It's an exceptional knife for the everyday person.
