I was making me an aluminum 9" disc first, that did not go well. Still not finished. So then I wanted to try to cut some steel 12" disc down to 9" , now they turned out pretty good. First I made an arbor with a dimple in it for a scribe compass. Got a circle and then cut slits about every 2" - 2 1/2" to the scribe line, then with my Porta Band in a vise I used it like a vertical band saw I cut most of the material off. It still amazes me what can be done with a Porta Band. Then it was close enough to put in my lathe and I dressed it down to approx. 8 7/8" Here are a few pics if someone wants to do it. I did 3 and might do 2 more for the spread of grits. Wasn't hard at all just would not want to do them for a living.

You surely did a good job - I've been able to find 1/2" thick disks on ebay to order that are the diameter I want and build from that. Your work with a portaband shows what can be done with a saw. Good work.

I been using a Porta Band for a bunch of years and I was surprised to get them that close to uniform with just the saw. I went looking to see what I had for plugs for all the equipment and surprise , look what I found. I am telling you I have crap saved everywhere. I just need a female recept and I have at least these 4 plugs and 12-4 wire. So I have plenty for running all my machines thru the VFD.
