Hey,

A friend of mine has a mint condition Steel Heart in D2 with Micarta scales and a Kydex sheath that he'll sell me for ~$350. He said he had it made by the custom shop quite a few years ago. I was just wondering what you think about the use of D2 in this knife design, as well as the value of the knife (sorry, no pictures).

Thanks, Steve ..

Awesome deal if you go for it. If not, let me know! I'll pay you a finders fee. ;)

Just buy it off him and post some pictures

You would probably be paying somewhere around 1/3 of it's market value. .

I knew that Busse used A2 in some of there older knives (before infi), but I did not know that Busse used d2 at all.

o.k. o.k. :)
Thanks for the responses.
He said he had it made about 15 years ago. Did they have INFI back then?
This fellow is like a second father to me and has taken me under his wing, as they say, so he's not trying to make a profit by any means. He said he paid $350 for it and figures that's a fair price.
You folks seem unanimous in the opinion that it's a great deal, so I guess I'll take it. I'll post pictures as soon as I have it in my mitts.
If I buy it from him though, I could never sell it. My friend would take that as an insult.
Back with pics a.s.a.p., which should be in a couple of days. :)

Thanks again,
Steve

Congratulations on a great score. If if he ok with selling it, keep it in canada! (hint, hint)

;) :D

D2? If it was that long ago it was during Jerry's A2 days. Some of the first Steel Hearts were made with ATS-34 and he did do the 3 finger (Skunk sold a bunch of these) in D2, so I figure it might be possible to find a Steel Heart done in D2....unusual and rare but possible. Way cool! $350.00 and from a father figure?!! Wow, grab that sucker and post some pictures!

Ya know, it may very well be A2. He said it was tool steel, and when I asked, " which one ?", he said, " uuuuhhm, D2. " So, he may be mistaken.

D2 or A2...doesn't really matter much. It's a old school Steel Heart from a good friend at a one in a life time price. Just be sure to post some pictures, and be sure to use the sucker. Those old Steel Hearts are tough and made to be used!

made that long ago..to my knowlege Jerry didn't do any in D2 it would be A2..it's still worth quite a bit more than $350.00 but you can't put a price on value with a buy like that:thumbup:

Alas, I bet 5 people have PM'd him to put a value on it. LOL

I just spoke with my buddy. He found the date of purchase in his records, 1998. After currency conversion and shipping it cost him $406. He said, " meh, $350 is fine."
I'm picking it up monday morning, so I'll post pics after supper.

It truly is nice to have good friends!
Sounds like a great score and its always sweeter with a little memory/story link....

Well, here she is. :)
According to my research I think it's a Steel Heart II, circa 1998 in A2. I don't much like the Kydex sheath (made by whoever Busse had making theaths for him at the time). I looked at the recommended sheath makers on the Busse website. I wouldn't mind a simple leather sheath, but don't want it to cost an arm and a leg or wait a year for it. Any recommendations?
