Steel matters?

plenty of slipjoints use 1095. Moore Maker sells one-hand, clipped folders with 1095 blades

Cotdt, you really need to start looking at the dates before posting and where in the he!! are you finding these threads? :) 2005  a bit has changed since then.

I kinda prefer it to starting a new thread

Is a Sebenza worth the price?

Spyderco vs BM

What are you carrying today?

Best knife?

Best steel?

What's a good hard use knife?

Are liner locks weak?

What's a good SD knife?

And the sad part is, nothing much has changed since 2005, yet we keep starting new threads about the same old thing.

I like stainless/semi stainless in folders as I do a lot of food prep with my knives and dont like rust.

As far as steels are concerned, i notice a little difference here and there buy overall it isnt huge but i would pay a little more for it

Yeah, didn't really think of it like that.

Steel matters? To me it does, I like my S90V and M4 and CPM-D2 because it stays sharp longer no matter what you are cutting and because I use diamond hones its no harder to sharpen than buck 420.

My only question is, "Why does cotdt keep resurrecting old threads?"

This one came from 2005.

I've been kind of a steel snob in the past, and even now I prefer tool steels over stainless. However, I've come to the point that the steel type really doesn't matter to me anymore. When my knife gets dull I sharpen it. How well my knife cuts and blade/edge grind is more important to me than steel type. I tend to reprofile the edges on all my knives and I seem to touchup the edge way before its dull. I'd probably be able to get away with useing the worst heat treated crap steel and still have a sharp knife. :) So whats my point? I'm not really sure. I think we may just get wrapped up in the steel type way too much.

I'm kinda this way, too, now. I wanted ZDP steel because it supposedly stays sharp longer than VG-10. But to me, if a knife can't grab my nail at the slightest touch, then it's not sharp. And I don't think any steel can do that after tearing down even one box, so it's all the same to me.
