Steel of older tigershark

I have an older tigershark, it is unserrated and came with a leather sheath. Can someone tell me what steel it is made of?

Hi Maximus,

The steel is SK-5 high carbon tooling steel. I'm told SK-5 is very similar to 01. This is a very fine and desirable steel.

I also have an old Tiger shark. I was told it was made of SUP-9 carbon steel? Sk-5 is great stuff!! And the TS is a great knife!! So what steel is it made of?

Hi Skag,

Where did you hear the Tigershark was made of SUP-9? It was made for many, many years out of SK-5 (which is similar to 0-1).

An outstanding choice for this knife!!

Why Ron, what are you trying do say? That SK-5 can't beat 440A in corrosion resistance?

Say it isn't so, lol

One thing is for sure, those SK-5 blades are able to be sharpened to a wicked edge.
