Hello everyone,

Did somebody used steels from Uddeholm?

Vanadis 4 Extra and Sleipner ( something like D2 on steroids, or Daido DC53) ?

I think about to start using them instead of D2 and K390.
Also I going up from N690 into ELMAX. ( I need to finish only 4x Manticore and 4x Grendel from N690 4,7mm ant those will eb last from this steel)

Those steels will be good choice for knives?

carbon/Low Alloy : NCV1 (80CrV2) + O2 (Bohler K720)
Semi-Stainless: Sleipner + Van4E
Stainless: ELMAX + M390

Cheers :)

Vanadis 4 Extra is an outstnding steel. It can be ran at very high hardness 63-64 RC and ground very very thin at that hardness while still being extremely tough. It might be the perfect steel, but what is the perfect steel anyway??

I used Vanadis 4 Extra, great steel, Crucible "developed" (got inspired by V4E alloy :D ) and branded it CPM 4V you may find more info this way because the steel is readily available in USA.

I used a blade of Vanadis 4E at 62 hrc and it performed extremely well both in terms of wear resistance and toughness. I'm not an expert but I like the steel a lot compared to a lot of other steels I have used and abused.
