Steel question

I bought this 1084 from a reputable dealer I have purchased from before, but it has gray streaks on both sides of it the likes of which I've never seen. They don't come off when I use rubbing alcohol on it. Is this steel fine? Do I need to be concerned or just plow forward and use it?

It’s fine, usually happens at the edge of a sheet.

Thanks. There is a burr on one of the edges that already had me thinking it was a piece from an edge.

Any idea of what causes it or what it is?

Looks like heat from a blow torch

That’s from the annealing, the sheets are stacked and heated. The edges are one color and the middle is another color.

My most recent 1084 order from New Jersey Steel Baron had the exact same coloring down the middle. I wondered the same but never even thought there might be an issue and that i should ask. Good to know.
